Book Description

July 26, 2010
Dark energy, the mysterious cause of the accelerating expansion of the universe, is one of the most important fields of research in astrophysics and cosmology today. Introducing the theoretical ideas, observational methods and results, this textbook is ideally suited to graduate courses on dark energy, and will also supplement advanced cosmology courses. Providing a thorough introduction to this exciting field, the textbook covers the cosmological constant, quintessence, k-essence, perfect fluid models, extra-dimensional models, and modified gravity. Observational research is reviewed, from the cosmic microwave background to baryon acoustic oscillations, weak lensing and cluster abundances. Every chapter ends with problems, with full solutions provided, and any calculations are worked through step-by-step.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"One strength of Amendola and Tsujikawa's book is the level of detail it provides on dark-energy models... comprehensive."

4.0 out of 5 stars cosmology September 22, 2010
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
A detailed account from the mathematical physics point of view. The text is thorough in its coverage of the topic. It should be noted it offers no instruction in the high level of maths involved, so one has to familiar with it to start.
The text is sequenced from the foundation of the ideas to their most recent exploration.
Not a light read, not for the popular scientist.

4.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Treatment for Dark Energy October 9, 2011
Format:Hardcover
Good book if you are also interested in the mathematical framework and what is the observational evidence for dark energy. Requires a good mathematical and physics background to understand the book right from the start. Well organized and covers topics not included in other sources such as baryonic acoustic oscillations and the LSS evidence in addition to more known supernovae Ia observations and the age of the universe. Graduate student level.

5.0 out of 5 stars Known otherwise as Spirit!!!! October 28, 2010
Format:Hardcover
And our present generation looked back at the past generation and laughed. The laughter got more and more and more until our children's children began to laugh at other funny things. That people actually believed that Dark Energy and 'dark matter'are something 'else'than Spirit , is now considered beyound lunacy by a growing majority of recently emerged , but little known scientists. It was considered fashionable that church and state were not to be seperated when it came to discuss dark matter , because it was to be treated as the result of the insane political decision that resulted in this universal Spirit being identified with something or somebody 'else'than what it really is. So who always understood dark matter better than the occultists and magicians of old? That's right. Now we have entered an era in human history where we are listening to people talking with each other on Coast To Coast , LAUGHING at the ridiculous seriousness that people showed to the theories that attempted to put dark matter away from what it really is. We realists have always been looked down at and frowned upon. And officially we have all been termed materialists who don't want to look at anything spiritual. We realists are still today sometimes identified with materialism , and with it , the promotion of capitalist greed. I am not attempting to dismiss the authors of this book as essentially un - spiritual. What I am saying is , that people thought that dark matter was something 'else'than what it is - which is simply Spirit. Hence , dark energy becomes easily explaineable as 'spiritual energy'. Thus it is so because that is the Law. What is really complex here are all the fantastic new and recently emerging equations which explain how dark matter and dark energy behave.
People can continuously choose to refer to dark matter and dark energy rather than going all the way and write in the new textbooks that a mistake was made and that dark matter is really Spirit , and ark energy is really the energies that drive the dimensions , or simply spiritual energy. There has been a war on this planet which has been waged for so long that it virtually ravaged the scientific community (jut look at the few attacks that have been made against this analysis of the book) for a time. People were not allowed to go beyound official explanations because that meant attempting to seperate the Church from State in what was then termed 'materialistic science'by many as of then practicing spiritualists and mediums. After such books as the Field were published , and the west rediscovered it's real place in science and technology , we all looked back and those who had eyes to see and ears to hear had the courage to do so openly and laugh at the ridiculousness of the System for what it was - nothing more than decay. It was this decay which had been worshipped for what people felt was a time which had passed for so long , that it was decided finally by those beyound that the real terminology for Spirit and spiritual energy were to be returned and that people should attempt to understand that full seperation does not take place between church and state , but from church AND state at the same time so that progress can be made in all areas of research , INCLUDING scientiic research.
That does not happen in an essentially un - spiritual environment.
The act of being alive , the act of being biodiversity , is itself an attempt at meditation. It is simply cosmic awareness. There is no 'matter'anywhere. What is , is Spirit. And this Spirit is the holographic nature of multidimensional awareness that cosmi and universes are and why they are so unlimited and have appearently no beginnings or ends , but why they breathe themselves into and out of various altered states of cosmic consciousness. So now we are suddenly back at square one and we have to admit that had hardly taken that much of a step because we refused to identify with the stairway. Now that we can start to identify with the stairway , we can start climbing it up. The hardest climb will be the one that involves the last steps that are required to meet the final goals. I am not attempting to ask people to go 3000 years or else here - there's been too many tens of thousands of billions of billions of years already that have passed and it has been only a few centuries since we the people of the western world began to start to fully appreciate the wisdom of the ancients for what it is and base our future scientific discoveries on that and any other wisdom. So this is thus what dark matter and dark energy are - Spirit , and spiritual energy. It is therefore the interconnectedness of all that is that permeates the two and takes us beyound in trying to understand these and other highly important matters further.
This is a book I have to read, and no I am not saying it's authors are attempting to prove or assert in any manner that there is spirit.
