5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT!
DF 2 was only slightly under in stars for me, but i totally loved this game. the ambiance, the story, the graphics--immersed me. sure,, it had a few dragging points but perfection is nearly impossible after DF1. I would recommend this to anyone who likes spooky point and clicks, no combat (thank god) or role playing (no thanks.) if you like hunting around in creepy spots...

I bought this game because of the reviews for Dark Fall: The Journal, but was horribly disappointed with "Lights Out".

The graphics and sound (e.g., music and characters) were spooky and fun, but the clues and puzzles didn't feel intuitive. I felt like they were based on some individual writer's strange logic, and I wasted A LOT of time interacting with characters/items when it wasn't necessary. The game play follows a very firm, predetermined path, and if you fail to find the clues in the right order, you can get stuck without a way to backtrack.

The biggest reasons why I would steer someone away from this game:

1) the ratio of clues per "search area" is very low. You will likely spend hours searching areas where there just aren't any clues or items to find.

2) game bugs that can mislead players. For example, in one spot I picked up an inventory item, and decided to go back later and see if I missed something. That same inventory item I picked up was again where I had first found it, even though it was already in my inventory. Additionally, I would search in an area only to come back later and find an item. In some other games, this would be a normal progression of the game (in which you must talk to a person, etc., in order for an item to be "available" to find). In this game, however, I'm pretty sure it's a glitch.

The game reminded me of "Amber" and "Shivers" (from the mid 90s), but the storylines in those games made clear sense as you played them and there were FAR more puzzles/clues to solve and discover. If you could stand the archaic graphics, I would suggest you find those two on an auction site and play them instead.

I'm actually pretty easy to please when it comes to adventure games, but this one was a true waste of money.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent!, September 12, 2008

This review is from: Dark Fall 2: Lights Out (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
I just finished playing it, and it became one of my favourites of all time (and I played A LOT of adventure games)! The story is excellent! I can't beleive someone called it boring. Although if you like shooting and action games, this will be boring, because there is a lot to study and read and explore here, a lot of walking around and looking into every corner to find more clues. I even had a notepad to write down all the facts. The only thing I didn't like was that the surroundings don't "move" with the movement of the mouse, so you have to click-click-click to look and walk around. But overall athmosphere, sound and story-line are so real and creepy!! When I say creepy, I mean the athmosphere - there is no blood or violence here. So I would recommend it for those adventurous ones of you!!! )))

5.0 out of 5 stars Creepy and mysterious--fun!, January 29, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dark Fall 2: Lights Out (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
I liked the first Dark Fall, wishing there was more freedom to explore the surrounding areas, especially in the train station. The first game was spooky and able to convey foreboding rather well. So I was delighted to find the same high quality graphics and even creepier story line with time travel in Dark Fall 2, with the same type of plot driven story as opposed to puzzle after puzzle tedium. There are twists that you may miss if you aren't thoroughly investigating your environment in this game, which is my personal favorite part of any adventure/mystery RPG.

The sound effects are really well done, and in a few months I will definitely revisit this beautifully haunting gamespace again.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's been said already, but..., September 3, 2011
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dark Fall 2: Lights Out (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
Having loved the original 'Dark Fall', I couldn't wait to play this one. For the most part, I wasn't disappointed - but I have to say, as a few others already have, that this game is very much let down by its ending. It's not just that the ending is abrupt, or leaves some things unexplained - it leaves EVERYTHING unexplained. While lack of closure is forgivable (if often annoying) in a novel, I really don't think it has any place in a point-n-click adventure game. Never mind not finding out what happens to the missing people the main character is meant to be finding, you never even establish why or how they went mad and disappeared in the first place. Seeing as this is the basis of tht plot, the lack of explanation is a failure which - in a game genre where plot, however far-fetched, is reliably concrete - does not come off as artistically open-ended, but just sloppy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful sequel, May 19, 2009

I thought this sequel to Dark Fall was even more fun than the first game. This is a point-and-click slide-show type haunted lighthouse adventure game. Again, there are no characters other than occasional voices. Also again, it doesn't have any whiz-bang graphics, but the illustrations are effective, the atmosphere is moody, and the puzzles are complex and interesting. I really enjoyed this one because of some unexpected, clever turns in the story. The only complaint I have is that the game just ends abruptly. Even more highly recommended than the first game. (If you can get the Pins & Needles edition that contains both Dark Fall and Lights Out it's well worth it.) After you play this one, play The Lost Crown.

1.0 out of 5 stars Mixed Genre Disappointment, August 30, 2008
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dark Fall 2: Lights Out (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
This is a game which cannot make up it's mind (I know that people created it) as to what it wants to be. Is it going,as advertised,to be a creepy adventure story? Is it going to be a scary whodunit? Is it going to be a horror filled thrill ride? No,No,& No. It is a boring, plodding sci-fi wannabe, detective story maybe,brain-teaser oughta-be, ripoff! Not creepy, graphically ridiculous (there are more scenes and interesting content in a Mighty Mouse cartoon) with a plot so loose that it needs
Kaopectate. I love a good chilling adventure but this ain't it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun game, weak ending, March 27, 2008

I think that this is a fun game, it was interesting going from time to time exploring different things. When I actually finished the game, my jaw dropped a little. I really expected more. Like another reviewer said, it seemed rushed and very difficult to understand what is being said. Overall I liked the game.

4.0 out of 5 stars a liitle glad its over, March 4, 2007
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dark Fall 2: Lights Out (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
Well first off I just finished this game and decided to come rate it. In the beginning I was very excited to play. Then after going back and forth between times I got a little aggravated. I really got tired of climbing back and forth on the lighthouse stairs. Also I am no artist so It annoyed me that I had to go back threw most of the game to sketch certain things so I could have the ending that I deserved. Well I didn't get the ending I deserved. The ending is horrible. You can barely make out what is being said. I had to actually go to a few website to read what was being said in the end. A lot of items you click on will have to be revisited after a certain item is found. So its like going threw the entire game twice hoping for something to change. But on the plus side it was a good way to waste a lazy Sunday. I would suggest playing the game if you just have nothing else to do and there is nothing on tv to watch. Its very cheap on here now so go for it. Just have a pen and paper ready to write down a lot of numbers and do a few sketches.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than Darkfall..............But Weak Ending............, October 23, 2006

Having played both games with my girlfriend, Lights Out to us is much better overall. While it's starts off a little slow, it really picks up later. Our only grip was the ending. There was so many layers going on that just seemed to be rushed into an ending. The makers should of left it open for a sequel.

Overall though, it's worth the money and time to play..............
