VERY HOT!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dark Fires (Mass Market Paperback)
If you have read "Innocent Fire," then you must read this novel. It is about Nicholas Bragg, the first-born son of Derek and Miranda. He is also the Earl of Dragmore. He is rumored to have murdered his first wife even after he was found innocent by a British court. He is wild, explosive, uncouthed and as handsome as sin. Jane Barclay becomes his ward and she is determined to tame the Texas rakehell. Their story is simply delicious. One that you will read time and time again.

If you love the Bragg series, you'll love this edition to the series. Dark Fires is a sensual, hot, passionate story. Nicholas Bragg, the son of Derek and Miranda in Innocent Fire, is living in hell. He is dealing with a family secret he cannot share, his wife is dead and socitey thinks he killed her and most importantly he has a new young ward who he needs to stay away from. Jane, is a young, sensual innocent girl who falls in love with the powerful Nicholas. This book is hot. Jane is willing to do anything to have Nicholas take an interest in her. Little does she know that he is fighting himself and his love and lust for her. Once these two characters come together, they share a firey passion and are desperate for each other's love. This book is great. It has a passionate love scences, strong characters, creative story line, excitement and more. If you can get this book, get it! You'll read it more than once.

Good, but I did want to toss it across the room a few times...,

I totally agree with the reviewer that sums this book up as being "exasperating but good." I couldn't put it down, it had me turning the pages - and I confess I do love these over-the-top heroes that aren't quite politically correct - but the misunderstandings did at times threaten to overtake the story. Yet I did enjoy it, and as long as you don't mind some melodramatic eye-rolling moments you probably will, too.

Exasperating but good,

I enjoyed the book very much especially the first half. After that there were times I felt like throwing the book across the room. One misunderstanding after another and I felt for both Nick and Jane. He being part Indian felt all women would be repelled. Jane, Nick's ward loves him from the start and so does he but he doesn't think it's right after all he is supposed to find her a husband. Again I have to go back to the misunderstandings that tear these two apart. If you can handle that, then read on... the ending is worth the read. You will not be disappointed.

Never a Dull Moment! Terrific!,

Hot, Hot, Hot, this book was terrific! I could not put it down. Kept me up late and got me up early, neglected my family just to read one more page. It was wonderful. Brenda Joyce is the greatest! The story of Jane Barclay and Nicholas Bragg, the Earl of Dragmore. Their lifes were in constant turmoil, always something going on. They had so many mis-understandings, but Bredna Joyce did an excellent job of bringing out the characters' viewpoints in such a way you could understand where they were coming from. Jane became Nick's ward when she was dumped on him uninvited. All he needed was another problem. The chemestry between these two sizzled. You won't be disappointed! This is a must read!!

Courtesy of A Romance ReviewDark Fires is well written, passionate, sensual and dramatic. Reading this book was more or less like watching a drama. Each character seemed to dance out in front of you. The emotions were strong between the lines and some of the love screens would leave you aching.

I enjoyed this book from start to finish. I started reading it at about noon the first day and finished about 3/4 of it and then completed it the next morning in a few short hours! They chemistry between Nick and Jane were off the charts!! They love they felt for each other and the passion came across great and pulled you in. I loved the fact that they had their little family from start to finish. This is one of Joyce's top books (for me that is. I loved it!!!
My only drawback was that they fell in love a little two quick but that is nothing to take away from the book. It is great anyway. Also the best friend drama was a little bad but as I said nothing to take away from the book! A very good read!!!! I would give this book a 4 1/2 but I gave it a 5 because I would rather give it a 5 than a 4!

Could Not Put It Down!,

It was that good. I mean it had just enough excitement, romance, suspense to keep you awake. Nicholas and Jane were just explosive together. I loved it when Nicholas found out that Jane was faithful for the 2 years they were apart. It made him realize that Jane truly loved him and that she loved him even if he was a half-breed and a the son of a rapist. I thought Nicholas was a true gentlemen because he kept on wanting to fight his feelings for Jane because she was his ward and a innocent girl. But Jane knew what she wanted, and she wanted Nicholas, so she went after him. She even tries to wear her mother's dress to make Nicholas see her as more of a grown-up woman, so she can compete with his mistress. I thought they would never get together because circumstances kept on keeping them apart throughout the book.

The chemistry between the hero and heroine practically sizzled. Brenda Joyce always delivers riveting plots full of intrique and passion. This novel is representative of the writing style that is uniquely Brenda Joyce. I must say that I enjoyed her earlier works more than her newer novels.

Nicolas was just a bit too suffering....I had a hard time with his reasoning. It played up the best friend throughout the book and then left him hanging at the end.
Despite all of that it was still a good read. The story kept me interested. I really liked the idea that Jane got to grow up before the relationship came together. 17 was a bit too young for Nicolas. The story allowed Jane to mature, but remain somewhat inocent. I read most of Brenda Joyce's books....I love some, and always like the rest. This was a like. The tales she tells hold your interest throughout. |
