2.0 out of 5 stars What happened????, June 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Dark Fires (Mass Market Paperback)
I can't believe that this is the continuation for Steve and Ginny. After reading the first book (which I could not put down) this one was a disappointment and not just this one the third book too lacks many of the sophistication and adventure of the first book. The last book to this series was equal to the first. Too bad for the two middle books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not A Lighthearted Read, But Still A Good Read, March 24, 2001

Mv2.3 "This Is My Fake Name Badge" (In the Aether and in the Other) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dark Fires (Mass Market Paperback)
I've come to take the Steve and Ginny saga as less of a romance and more of a historical adventure/misadventure. The "dark" in Dark Fires is most appropriate. What I really appreciated in this novel, apart from some gripping storytelling, was Rogers' treatment of substance abuse in the latter half of the Nineteenth Century. There's nothing pretty about it, and I think it's important to point out that abuse is not just a modern phenomenon. I also admire the way Rogers treats the simple fact that people change and develop as a result of their experiences--and also that one can become stronger through adversity.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite as good as Sweet Savage Love:, December 18, 2003

This review is from: Dark Fires (Mass Market Paperback)
Probably I would give it 3.5 stars. The first third of the book is good, but the part where Steve gets amnesia was a bit overdone. Ginny and Steve are kept separated for a little too long. (It's a romance novel; they should be together more.) Nothing beats the first book and it really didn't NEED a sequel, but, this is OK.
