4.0 out of 5 stars Not A Lighthearted Read, But Still A Good Read
I've come to take the Steve and Ginny saga as less of a romance and more of a historical adventure/misadventure. The "dark" in Dark Fires is most appropriate. What I really appreciated in this novel, apart from some gripping storytelling, was Rogers' treatment of substance abuse in the latter half of the Nineteenth Century. There's nothing pretty about it,...

2.0 out of 5 stars What happened????
I can't believe that this is the continuation for Steve and Ginny. After reading the first book (which I could not put down) this one was a disappointment and not just this one the third book too lacks many of the sophistication and adventure of the first book. The last book to this series was equal to the first. Too bad for the two middle books.

There's nothing pretty about it, and I think it's important to point out that abuse is not just a modern phenomenon. I also admire the way Rogers treats the simple fact that people change and develop as a result of their experiences--and also that one can become stronger through adversity.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite as good as Sweet Savage Love:, December 18, 2003

Probably I would give it 3.5 stars. The first third of the book is good, but the part where Steve gets amnesia was a bit overdone. Ginny and Steve are kept separated for a little too long. (It's a romance novel; they should be together more.) Nothing beats the first book and it really didn't NEED a sequel, but, this is OK.

Fans of "Sweet Savage Love" hoping for a passionate continuation of Steve and Ginny's romance will be horribly disappointed. They spend most of the novel apart...and in bed with other people. Hard to get interested in a couple that isn't even together for most of the book. Re-read "Sweet Savage Love" and don't bother with this

2.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating!, July 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dark Fires (Mass Market Paperback)
They are still fighting their love for each other. Each plays at making each other jealous although Steve Morgan does the better job since he has countless affairs while married! Ginny is immature and stupid as always and the whole book is just infuriating to read. Rosemary Rogers will never recreate "Sweet Savage Love" in all the sequels. I read "Lost Love, Last Love" first and went back to read the others before it. Loved "Sweet Savage Love" but "Dark Desires" is definitely a disappointment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark Fires, August 14, 2009

Very good sequel and could not put it down once I started reading it. I also read book three the same way. She is a very good author. I will order more in the future.
