Power metal at it's best,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dark Hallucinations (Audio CD)
Wow, what a great album. The concept of making a heavy metal album based on the Farenheit 451 book by Ray Bradbury is very cool. The lyrics come through very nicely and you actually get the feeling of the amazing novel. The guitar arrangements are masterpieces all by themselves. Imagine an old Fates Warning/Iron maiden sound full of all sorts of tempo changes, there has to be at least ten to fifteen different guitar riffs in every song. The vocalist operatic 80's singing compliments the music very well. Another one of those albums with a well thought of concept, that actually brings the listener back for more and more.If classic 80's power metal is your cup of tea, this album is a must have. By the way, Track Ten is a classic fates Warning song. Chalk another one up for nuclear blast. With great albums like this heavy metal is definately on the upside!!!

This Band's Singer Freaked Me out! ***4 STAR RATING.,

The singer for this band has got to have about 5 different personalities inside of him; either that, or his voice is just possessed and decides to change whenever it pleases. First off, I always love it when any power metal/metal band takes off on a concept album based around any great book or in Malmsteen's case, classical music. The Ray Bradbury concept from the book was a great idea; I was hoping for an outcome more like Jag Panzer had with, Thane To The Throne, based on Shakespeare's Macbeth, which I would tell ANYONE who liked this to pick up. The beginning of this CD-only the 1st 3 or 4 songs-seemed to be lacking, and I kept waiting for the band to really take off, which happens after the middle of the CD. The singer goes anywhere from sounding like Bruce Dickinson, to Geoff Tate, to a skriek occasionally in the tradition of Rob Halford, and what freaked me out at the end ... the Fates Warning cover! You can play the Fates Warning version right after the Steel Prophet version, and the vocals sound almost identical: I mean REALLY identical. The music has me twisted: I don't know if I can really call it 'power' metal in the sense of Jag Panzer, Helloween, Iced Earth, Tad Morose, and many others. You won't find any real melodic catches here. I would say their sound is a cross between old Iron Maiden and just plain metal. The guitar solos were not melodic in this sense to me. That would have made this album so much better. I gave it 4 stars for the vocals and concept idea; and after the first 4 tracks it really does jam, so it's worth the price to keep it in your rack, just not a mastepiece-but close. I'll have to check out the more recent releases, because if this band gotten a lot better, you'll see me rating some 5 stars with these guys. Pick this one up, you'll be cranking it when the friends are over drinking beers ... uh ... I mean soda pop! ***4 STAR RATING FROM SCRAGGY'S TOMB OF POWER METAL, USA.
