Editorial Reviews

The pioneering platinum rapper put Chicago on the rap map and made the double-time rap style a rap staple. Despite selling millions of albums and popularizing a delivery incorporated by everyone from Jay-Z to Eminem, the Windy City rapper remains largedly unheralded by the uninformed. That s why he's named his new album The Dark Horse.

Twista does just that on The Dark Horse selections 'For Me And You' and 'Scale The Wall.' Produced by longtime sonic partner The Legendary Traxster (Do Or Die, Mariah Carey), these two songs add new installments to the pair's classic collaborations. But for Twista, it all comes down to the music. It's the reason he's remained one of rap's top talents for two decades. 'It's the love of the music,' he says. 'I do other things and I have other business ventures that I do, but my love is really with the music. I keep doing it and staying in it because I love music. I still get excited every time I hear a beat or think of a different flow.'

Now with The Dark Horse, Twista brings new life into his music by recreating his classic style and building upon it, too. 'I try not to break what I know is already cool or what people want from me,' he says. 'People want to just hear that fierce Twista stuff that they know and love. The main thing I'm doing with this album is staying true to what people know that I do.'

I don't have a problem with auto-tune as long as its done right, but it wasn't done right.

Those songs are not bad, they would just do better on their own album.

Twista's ninth studio album title "Dark Horse" seem more like his album "F5" seems like it really didnt live up to the title name. You have your street and horrorcore songs but it seems to have more R&B and club tracks then street anthems. I love twista but it seems like now days he tries to go towards the 17-30 age listeners then the real hip hop heads. But neverless he does bring the heat on some tracks like The dark horse intro track, Crisis, and I think the best track on the cd 6 Rings! I do like some of the slower tracks like "Its Yours" but the hook on "Its Yours" does get a little repeative other than that its a good track. The track "Got Away" which is only on the deluxe edition is another good track, which I thought the cd should have more tracks like this. But in the end the cd does play out more like a mixtape than a actual album, because if you heard his mixtape "Back to the Basics" it actually had two of the same tracks that appear on The "Dark Horse" album "Beast" and "Want My Love" which isn't really fair to the fans. I do like Twista but seems hes going stay a average artist. Sad to say. . . .

This is another example of what a hip-hop artist that has been in the game for year's CD should sound like,I love this album from start to finish I'm glad that Twista has believed in himself that don't need no wack ass producer to make a street, club and bumbin in the trunk CD this goes in my system,it's just I had to pick up my copy at best buy for the four bonus tracks, this reminds me of the old Twista shouts out to my family up in the Chicago ya heard me

On Twista's 9th album "Dark Horse", he tries to find the right formula to put him back in the mainstream. Some of them work, while others don't. The album starts off with the title track, "Dark Horse" featuring Tyme. While the verses was dope, the hook is terrible. Twista bounces right back though with "I Am Such a Mobsta" and "Devil’s Angel". Twista proves that he still hasn't lost a step. The first single produced by The Legendary Traxster, "It’s Yours" featuring Tia London is something for the ladies. I'm actually surprised the song wasn't bigger. Is it because the similarities from Twitsa's last big single, "Wetter"? Is it because hes independent now? Thats all I can think of, but moving along, check out "Burnin" featuring Wiz Khalifa and Berner and "6 Rings"

Now for those who prefers Twistas more lyrical stuff, you'll definitely enjoy the Tech N9ne assisted "Crisis". The two underrated MCs' use their classic rapid fire flows over Xcel's dope production. Dark Horse could of been better, but it gets hindered by joints like "Getting Paper" featuring Dra Day, "Want My Love" featuring DJ Victoriouz and "Nothing Like Me" featuring Gritz. Its too many auto-tuned hooks on here. I don't have a problem with auto-tune as long as its done right, but it wasn't done right. They also come off as forced radio singles. In addition to Traxter," Dark Horse" features production from Trebo Beatz , Lo-Key, Maxwell Smart, Cozm ,DJ Tight Mike & P. Flawz. All in all, Twista is a legend in the game, and "Dark Horse" at least deserves a listen. It won't blow you away, but it is a solid album.

This album is by no means bad - it just does not live up to what Twista can do. He brings the heat of some tracks and offers up some nice horrocore sounds, but the tracks that lean heavy on the R&B/Pop sound just fall flat on this album. Those songs are not bad, they would just do better on their own album. They feel out of touch with the albums theme and the heavier tracks.
He does feature some talent bringing in R.Kelly, Wiz Khalifa, and Tech N9ne.

Recommended Tracks: Devil's Angel - Here Twista shows off his ability to keep your attention over a hard beat.
One More Joog - Excellent driving music
Crisis - Featuring Tech N9ne, Twista shows off some true skill
No Friend of Me - A great way to round out the album and the Dark Horse theme

Beast mode baby! Get your mind right, chi what, this album really gets you hyped and going! Well, I guess people in Chicago should not listen to this until they take a few chill pills and put the guns down! Chi-towns most consistent rappers. In my opinion one of the best rappers of our era! Got to get this album!

This is a solid album from Twista. I would of gave the album 5 stars if he had more songs like Devils and Angel and Me and you on this project, but that being said, Twista still show cases why he is one of the best to ever grace the mic.
