5.0 out of 5 stars Galen is *BACK*!
After a wait of 12 years, Galen Sword and Company returns in triumph to the First and Second Worlds. The Reeves-Stevens have promised a total of *nine* Chronicles, and if "Dark Hunter" is any clue, the rest of the story, and the final answers to many questions will be well worth the wait. Dark Hunter is a great addition to the Chronicles of Galen Sword. The book answers many question and introduces a number of other questions/mysteries.

The writing is intelligently done and the characters are slightly more than two-dimensional stereotypes. Although sometimes it gets difficult to believe certain characters (Ko and Foresyte for example) that...

5.0 out of 5 stars Galen is *BACK*!, December 18, 2003
This review is from: Dark Hunter: The Chronicles of Galen Sword, Book 3 (Paperback)
Great cover art on this Trade Paperback, and Babbage Press has a deal that if you buy all three Chronicles at once, you get them cheaper AND all three are signed by the authors! Without giving away too much, we learn who the Dark Hunter really is, learn some things about Brin we surely didn't know, and see the darker side of Professor Forsythe. A real page turner, I know you will love it as much as I did. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars 12 years later and worth the wait., November 26, 2003

This review is from: Dark Hunter: The Chronicles of Galen Sword, Book 3 (Paperback)
I am happy that this 3rd book finially made it to print.
Galen is finially back, and, as expected, the book takes us on quite a romp thru the "First World". For those of us that read the first 2 books in the series this book explains plenty. I do not like reviews that give away things so I will not do so. I will say that Orion and Bub are back (my favorites) and that the series is not over! I look forward to books 4-6 and another tour de force with Galen and his exceptional crew. It is worth adding to your collection. Thanks

Dark Hunter is a great addition to the Chronicles of Galen Sword. The book answers many question and introduces a number of other questions/mysteries.

The writing is intelligently done and the characters are slightly more than two-dimensional stereotypes. Although sometimes it gets difficult to believe certain characters (Ko and Foresyte for example) that think/act like idiots but are supposed to be really, really smart.

Due to legal problems, the authors were unable to publish the 3rd book in the series until 12 years after the 2nd book in the series (Nightfeeder). This is explained in the prelude to chapter 1 called: "THE RETURN OF GALEN SWORD: Introduction to the Babbage Press Editions of the First Three Chronicles".

It has now been over 7 years since Dark Hunter has been originally published. While those that are mathematically inclined will note that 7 < 12, I have to state that there has been no word on when book 4 will be published (if ever). I am starting to question the commitment of this writing team.

With that said. I rate "Dark Hunter" a solid 5 stars due to the interesting story line and good writing style. I rate the series a dismally solid 1 star for lack of communication (from writers to fans) and lack of books to sustain readers' interests.

One last note for the mathematically inclined. In almost 20 years of time we have received 1 additional book from this series. While I enjoy the series and would like to continue reading I have to express my disgust at the seeming lack of motivation to get the 4th (and consecutive) books out. I'm not entirely sure if I will further support these writers by purchasing their books when all they seem to be interested in is making it big in Hollywood (you can research this yourself).

5.0 out of 5 stars fast-paced story that sucks you right in., September 21, 2005

This review is from: Dark Hunter: The Chronicles of Galen Sword, Book 3 (Paperback)
This is one of the best series I've read. I read Shifter and Nightfeeder in the early 90s and have waited very long for this third book. More than a decade later, I'm rereading the first two books along with this one, and the series is just as exciting and captivating as it was when I first picked up Shifter. My husband and I are both sci-fi/fantasy fans and have read many, many books. We both agree that this is definitely one of the best and can't wait for the rest of the series to be published.

I found this series back in the 80's. I did not realize this book had come out until recently and when I found it I immediately ordered it. Very happy with the book and the ordering process. But when the heck are they going to put out the next book in the series?!?

I read the first two books of the Chronicles of Galen Sword in the early 90's and I have long waited for book 3. It's good and does answer some questions but I was hoping for more answers and not just to have the authors leaving things hanging.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice -- when are the rest coming out!!!??, June 7, 2008
This review is from: Dark Hunter: The Chronicles of Galen Sword, Book 3 (Paperback)

I really liked this installment, wherein Galen learns more about his family, what fate befell them after he was born, and what destiny awaits him. I felt as though the authors were finally letting Galen come into his own a little. Less visible were the clumsy attempts by Galen and crew to understand and interact with the creatures of his origins that were seen in the first two books. Here, we even see a foreshadowing of what Galen might become should he be successful in his journey to learn all he can about his past.

All in all, a very fun read. I can't wait for more!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is my SECOND review of this book - See Tye Pearson, December 3, 2007
This review is from: Dark Hunter: The Chronicles of Galen Sword, Book 3 (Paperback)
I cannot possibly give less than a 5 star rating for this book or the series. It is brilliant. It is fast-paced, smart, witty, and submersive. It is a fantastic read that I would recommend to anyone.

However, please know in advance that you should NOT hope to read a fourth book. Avoid getting sucked into actually caring about the series. You will end up checking Babbage Press' website hundreds of times hoping for an announcement for the next book in the series. You might email the authors, as I have, and get nothing in response. You might actually believe the authors' promise that "the last word of the 9th book was known when the 1st word of the 1st book was written." Nonsense.

I do not think this series has any future. We are now closing in on FIVE years since the release of Dark Hunter which was released a full TWELVE years after Nightfeeder. Affording the benefit of the doubt, that's an average of 8.5 years of total wait time between books, leaving 3.5 years to go. With an alleged 6 books to go and an average wait time of 8.5 years between books (subtracting the 5 already waited for #4) that leaves 46 years until the series is finished. I would be 76 years old. I might still be breathing, but I highly doubt I'll be able to see well enough to read.

I don't believe the explanation anymore. I don't think it has anything at all to do with a soft sci-fi genre. I believe the authors don't care about the story, don't know where to take the story, or prefer to write redundant Star Trek novels. Maybe it's a combination of the three.

If you begin the Galen Sword series you absolutely will be mesmerized by it. My strong recommendation, however, is to take it for what it is....a three-novel series that ends with fantastic unresolved subplots. Create an ending in your own vivid imagination, because the authors certainly don't intend to. If you find yourself caring too much, drop the series and pick something else up. Because you WILL be disappointed.

I waited 12 years for this sequel and was not disappointed; it made me want to go back and read the first two all over again. If you were a fan of the first two books, pick this one up; it explains so much and so opens up even more possibilities. A definite must read; I read the entire book in a single day. I just couldn't put it down!!
