Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

The Warhammer 40,000 universe has always been one of Games Workshop’s richest story settings, allowing incredible breadth and yet at the same time providing instantly recognisable characters that can be developed. Proof-reading Dark Imperium has really reminded me how lucky we are to have such great writers eager to contribute their stories, from the harrowing description of a medical procedure in ‘Apothecary’s Honour’, to the epic clashes of ‘Battle of the Archeosaurus’ and the skirmishes of ‘Small Cogs’ which has in it the tensest, most gripping battle scene that I have ever read. Richard Williams, Sub Editor, The Black Library

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, September 12, 2001

This and Into the Maelstrom are a collection of short stories. If you think 40k is for you this will give you an all round view that can't be beat. Some of the stories were exceptional but with short stories they can't all suit you. I liked both and would recommend them to anyone. Sorry could not give Maelstrom all the credit.

If you like the table top game Warhammer 40k, and like to learn about the backround of the races, this is a good book for. It gives a unique perspective on thingss from the space marine point of view. If you haven't played 40k.....you probably should pass.

Got a lot of cool short stories, but some can be utterly boring to read. I still, however, can't find a 40k novel that shows the reality of the table top.. I mean.. they sure make space marines overly powerful(One squad can beat a bunch of scorpians and guardians with only 3-4 loses?? They only have 3+ save!!), eldar utterly [stink], and imperial guards too good to be true...

Well, you might want to be a 40k mania to enjoy this, but it's a good read anyways...
