Prequel short offers a different view of Day's Fallen,

This review is from: A Dark Kiss of Rapture (Kindle Edition)
Dark Kiss of Rapture is prequel for Day's new Renagade Angels series. The story takes place right before the start of the first book A Touch of Crimson: A Renegade Angels Novel. A Dark Kiss of Rapture stars vampire Raze, a Fallen angel who has lost his wings and who now helps to police the vampires, to keep his race out of trouble. When a gruesome calling card is left on Raze's door, he heads off to Chicago to hunt the killer vamp among the followers of a vampire he 'sanctioned'. And waiting for his target to spring the trap that Raze has knowingly entered, he looks for a faceless one night stand to kill some time and instead hooks up with a woman who is totally out of his league but who finally makes him understand the reason that his brothers fell. This story is on the sexy side to start (and has some 'language' right away) but I enjoyed it. It doesn't quite have a Happily Ever After - but is open ended, so this pair may appear later in the series. The angel leading man from Touch of Crimson, Adrian makes a cameo here and Raze and a few of his fellow Fallen who appear in this story put in cameos in Touch of Crimson.

The story was great but had no conclusion. If you're looking for a full story with closure- this isn't it. I enjoy her writing but this left me frustrated.

This is a prequel to a series and the author either expects her readers to have an understanding of all the different supernaturals in this story and their relationships or just doesn't care. It was difficult to initially figure out what was going on with the "fallen," the vampires, and the lycans. Other than the confusing relationships between the different species, you've got a pretty standard "one night stand turns into something more" story.I have no particular urge to check out the rest of the series -- it felt like something I'd read before.

Except this one has angels, fallen and not, humans, lycans and mates. The author at least gave enough twist to make me finish the short story. I'm just not sure I will read her upcoming books from this series. Like I said, same old vampire and werewolves story.Aside from this story's villain being not from the hero's past, the product description pretty much outlined the story and I liked that the 'sex scenes' are not the focus but on the plot and on the character introductions. There are not much character development, there are a lot of holes on the main character's background so all you can learn is their name and their 'tittle' in this world. Why the angels fall and what differentiate the sentinels are not clear, and more 'why, who, where, what and how' are not fully answered. It's worth a read if you are into the genre but don't expect the benefit of a full length book. Reminds me actually of Ms. Singh's books.

Jacked up action straight out of the box. Pulls you into their world immediately. Terrific mix of kick ass drama with steamy sex appeal without overdoing either. It does leave you hanging, which makes me think that this is an excerpt from a bigger story that's been cut down for a freebie because you will definitely want to purchase the sequel.

I had no idea this was such a short story, I finished it in a couple of hours. I guess this is a prequel to a series the author is starting. I hope in that series we get more understanding of the players, as the first 1/4 of this book was pretty confusing, trying to figure out who is who and what they are, how they fit in, etc. The romantic aspect of the book was easy to follow and I suppose this will be the focus of the rest of the series.

I don't typically like novellas because there isn't enough time to build a relationship with the characters. There usually isn't enough time for the story to build and the plot to unfold. I can never seem to become invested enough in the world built and care enough about the outcome of short stories; but much to my surprise this one had a good pace and likable characters that fell for each other fast; an almost love at first site kinda fall.I didn't realize it was the beginning of a series when I downloaded it but the book was written well enough to pique my interest so I will go on. Before I go, one thing that bugs me about some Kindle editions is the poor editing job. Though this one was not as bad as some I've read, it still bothers me that the publisher didn't do a better job with simple punctuation, use of contractions and grammar.

I'd heard the blurb about the RA series, but wasn't sure about buying the books, as although I like Sylvia Day's historical novels, I've not read any of her other stuff, really. The new series combines Angels, Lycans and Vampires (the latter are apparently, Fallen Angels) all vying for supremacy, and this was a good intro. This is the tale of Raze, a secondary vampire character in the RA series, which came out at the same time as the first full-length RA novel, A Touch Of Crimson. We're told he's having an extended sex session at the start of the tale, when a dead body is dumped at his doorstep, bearing the kill-signature of a long-dead vampire and so he's off to the clubs of Chicago to investigate. There's violence and fighting and it looks as if Raze is being set up, but all of that goes out of his head when he meets human Kim in a bar, who propositions him with a night of sex, no strings attached...but they find something a lot deeper and more meaningful than either of them had anticipated, and Kim becomes the chance for one of Raze's old enemies to gain revenge... It was a quick, fast-paced read, with hot sex, and decent characters, which made me decide that I will be checking out the full-length novels, the first of which features the leader of the Angels, Adrian.

Raze is one of the Fallen--an angel who was exiled from Heaven, his wings burned off, and made into a vampire. His job was suddenly the policing of vampires. He hungers for sex and blood; his appetite is voracious. He had long given up hope until he meets an uncommonly beautiful woman in a bar. Raze knows she is out of his league--way out. But the one thing he cannot deny is having her.Kimberly MacAdams is smart, beautiful, and independently wealthy. She knows her own mind, and makes her own decisions. With her beauty, she could ask for any man, but once she sets eyes on Raze, only he will fulfill her needs. Brooding, dangerous, and unbelievably handsome, she knows a man on the edge when she sees one. She has pegged him as a law enforcement officer--probably an undercover cop. Their assignation is just supposed to be a way to let off steam, but something happens between them. Suddenly, a connection is made, and neither wants to give the other up. I enjoyed this prequel novella to the Fallen series. The characters are both strong-willed individuals who have faith not only in themselves, but also in each other. I look forward to reading more of the Fallen series. Very highly recommended!
