3.0 out of 5 stars Bonefied filler book only
I read this whole series. I think theres only 5 books and all of them are rated the same to me. Nothing spectacular and nothing worth rushing out to get. This series is... okay. Some magic, fighting, sex, demons, and different realm dimensions. All and all..... it's a filler. Don't have high expectations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark Magic- A Joyfully Recommended Title, February 12, 2009
This review is from: Dark Magic (Magic Series, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
Cassia is finally home and about to gain the birthright that she has been working for. Cassia as come to realize all the changes it will cause in her life, but there is still one problem - she will have to mate with someone other than Jake. She is even trying to accept that until Cassia sees Jake about to die and she leaves everything to go to him.

Jake Macgregor is the leader of the Paranormal Special Forces in San Francisco and he has his hands full. They have defeated two gods, and now have to find and defeat the human how somehow gained all their powers. Jake has all of San Francisco on his shoulders and he knows that somehow, someway he and the rest of the group have to find the missing link. Another reason is that Cassia is missing from the group and Jake feels a hole where she was. But why did she lie to them?

Truths are revealed when Cassia and Jake talk. Jake is not going to let Cassia belong to anyone but him, even if he has to face the Great Guardian himself. Now Jake and Cassia have two missions: to defeat Darkwolf and to find a way to be together forever. Both are going to take every bit of trust, logic, magic, and love they have and a whole lot of help from their friends to achieve both and get their magical ending.

Superb! Were my feelings after finishing Dark Magic. I was waiting for Jake and Cassia's story ever since I closed the cover on the previous Magic book. It was definitely worth the wait. Cassia has finally come of age and is about to find her destiny, but it's one without Jake. Jake knows that all of his attention should be focused on the fight with Darkwolf, but there is no way not to think of Cassia and his needs. Together not only do they fight a dark and dangerous foe but struggle to keep the love they have together even when it means fighting the highest of powers in the Otherworld. I inhaled Dark Magic from cover to cover, loving it along the way. Cassia and Jake are a force to be reckoned with and prove that passion and love is the most important thing in any world. The one sad thing was when I finished and knew that the Magic series was over, but I know that I will be re-reading this and the rest of the series over again. Dark Magic was the best way to end a wonderful series and I highly recommend it - as a matter of fact I Joyfully Recommend it with out hesitation.

4.0 out of 5 stars The book is an interesting mix of magic and love story., December 10, 2008
This review is from: Dark Magic (Magic Series, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
In the world of Dark Magic, San Francisco is under siege. Darkwolf was a witch, and apparently in the first book of this series, managed to gain the powers of an underworld god and goddess, and thus has become a duo-god of dark magical power. He creates deadly "blades" and "stormcutters" whose only duty is to kill whomever Darkwolf wants dead.

Those he wants dead include the paranormal police force headed by Jake Macgregor, and his allies the gray D'Anu witches, the Drow, the Dark Elves, and others from the Otherworlds.

In this book, a woman who has been a part of the fight with the gray D'Anu witches has been called back to her own world. She is Cassia, and she is not truly a witch. She is the Guardian in waiting, the daughter of the Guardian of the Otherworlds, and a Light Elf. Her grandmother is the Goddess Anu herself.

Cassia's heart is with her sisters of the gray D'Anu and especially with Jake. So when she finds she must mate with a pure blood elf in order to come into her full power, she is not happy about it. Neither is Jake, when he finds out. Turns out he's pining for her as much as she is for him.

So this novel is not just about the battle against Darkwolf, but also the struggle of Jake and Cassia to find a way to be together.

There's also a traitor among the allied groups fighting Darkwolf. This doesn't help the fight, and creates no end of conflict among the allies.

The book is an interesting mix of magic and love story. The only thing I found jarring was the blunt language about the sexual attractions of the characters. I'm no prude, but I found myself constantly being taken out of the story by the crudest terms you can use in reference to male and female sex organs.

Other than that one quibble, I found the story interesting and the characters fun to root for and against.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Conclusion to a Phenomenal Adult Fae Series!, September 23, 2009
This review is from: Dark Magic (Magic Series, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
This was the last installment to Cheyenne's Magic Series. I enjoyed this installment, even though it was somewhat predictable. This story focuses on Cassia, the D'Anu witch, whose past has been a mystery from the beginning. Cassia, Jake McGregor and the rest of his special forces unit, the Drows, Tuatha D'Danann Warriors, Mystwalkers, earth-bound fae, the rest of the D'Anu coven and a last minute addition to the Alliance, The Light Elves, all work together to try to defeat Darkwolf; who has successfully robbed and killed Ceithlenn and Balor of their magic and is now a powerful god-warlock. There was plenty of action, suspense, intrigue and of course magic. This series was a great adult dark paranormal romance fantasy series, that help curb my cravings to read books geared for adults that involve the fae. All-in-all I will miss the series but I'm glad I gave it a chance. I highly recommend this series to dark urban fantasy readers with plenty of patience to skip through the many unnecessary sex scenes and overly emotional parts. If you don't mind sifting through those parts, the plot is fantastically-creative.
I also recommend:
Darkfever (Fever Series, Book 1)
Storm Born (Dark Swan, Book 1)
Dead Witch Walking (The Hollows, Book 1)
Witch Fire (Elemental Witches, Book 1)
Witchling (Sisters of the Moon, Book 1)

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Series, January 6, 2009

I can't rate this book without giving praise to the entire series. This is the last book in the Magic Series, and I think this series is so worth reading. This was the first series I read by Cheyenne McCray, and the only reason I have stuck with her. This series shows what an inventive writer she is, and how great her books are! This series is a MUST not only for the romance readers, but for the readers of paranormal books as well.

Cheyenne McCray's books are always exciting, sexy, and once you start, you can't put them down! Definitely well-written with non-stop action! This is an exciting series and if you like this series, check out the Succubus series written by Richelle Mead!

I loved this whole series and just sad it's at an end. If you've read any of the other books this ties into the others but can also be a stand alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars fabulous finish to a great urban fantasy, November 11, 2008
This review is from: Dark Magic (Magic Series, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
Although accepted as an equal by the D'Anu witches and treated as a sister, Cassia has hidden her royal Elvin blood from everyone. However, her time of hiding is over as she must return to her elf realm as the daughter of the Great Guardian must become a Guardian. She understands her duty, but feels strongly she must help her friends in their upcoming battle against the new "God" warlock Darkwolf and knows she will miss the human MacGregor with all her heart.

San Francisco Police Department chief of Paranormal Special Forces Jake Macgregor is a bit taken aback that Cassia, whom he is attracted to, is not human, but he does not care though he knows anything between them is short lived. If his dice wins against the overwhelming odds, she must leave to fulfill her regal role as a Guardian; if they lose he does not want to think of the hell they will all be in. Still Darkwolf comes before their hearts.

This is excellent on two levels. Besides a fabulous finish to a great urban fantasy that sub-genre fans will relish as one of the best series over the past few years; the romance is the one, readers have been waiting to see how it plays out since almost the beginning. Master magician Cheyenne McCray brings it all together in a superb ending to her stupendous saga.
