A new town. A new school. A new beginning. Seventeen year-old Cordell Griffin and his mother move from Los Angeles to the Pacific Northwest to deal with his "allergies," and start a healthier new life. Cor has one goal: To blend in and be invisible. Unfortunately for him, no matter how far he goes, he can't run away from his secrets. Secrets about who he is. Secrets about why he's sick. And secrets about why so many people he meets end up dead, drained of blood.

In "Dark Matter Heart", the origin novel in the "Cor Griffin Bloodsuckers" Young Adult Paranormal Thriller series from filmmaker and author Nathan Wrann, Cor must uncover the mysteries of his past and conquer the secrets of the present in order to protect the girl of his future, and save himself.

About the Dark Matter Heart Trilogy:
A new town. A new school. A new beginning. Seventeen year-old Cordell Griffin, and his mother, moved from Southern California to the Pacific Northwest to deal with his "sun allergies," and bizarrely restrictive "human blood diet". Cor has one goal: To blend in and be invisible. Unfortunately for him, no matter how far he goes, danger and tragedy lurk around every corner. Realizing that he and his friends, Taylor, Caitlyn, and Diana, can never lead normal lives, his goal changes to simply survive the experience.

Armed with knowledge gleaned from antique books and artwork, Cor and his new friends set out to uncover the truth behind the myths, legends and scary stories that keep us awake late at night.

The Dark Matter Heart Trilogy is the origin story in the Cor Griffin Bloodsuckers series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Beginning! January 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really liked this twist on a vampire story and found it dark, yet romantic. The book is only 191 pages which doesn't leave much room for a lot of character or plot development, but the main character Cor is unique and surprisingly kind that he carries the story brilliantly. There is profanity.

Cor is allergic to the sun and has a propensity for getting into trouble. As he describes it, trouble finds him. He has moved to another state giving him a "fresh start" as his mom describes it. His father supposedly left before he was born and his mother works nights, leaving him plenty of time to find trouble. At his new school, he meets master nerd Taylor who he becomes friends with despite his rule about no friends and has a "connection" with a pretty blond who happens to be the mean football quarterback's girlfriend. Taylor is fascinated by local murders and he and Cor team up to study the recent ones happening since Cor came to town. Cor knows more about them than he should and Taylor might be in over his head. Cor spends his time getting beat up by the football players and chasing the "creeper" who seems to be a lot like Cor. Then there is the Art History teacher who seems too cool when Taylor and Cor are breaking all the rules.

This was a fascinating drama that was interesting to read and which I would pass on if not for the foul language. There is a teaser at the end of the story for the next one in the series called "From Our Of Chaos". It looks good too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Find out what the buzz is all about! June 7, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
"Dark Matter Heart" is the first entry in the "Cor Griffin Bloodsuckers" series, from talented writer-filmmaker Nathan Wrann.

My wife and I are thirty-somethings, and we couldn't put this book down. This is the power of pure storytelling ability, and Nathan Wrann has the goods! With Wrann's background in filmmaking, the entire book has a cinematic quality about it, which will certainly appeal to those teens out there who have yet to fall in love with books and the joys of reading.

This novel is described as a Young Adult Paranormal Thriller. Regardless of the genre, the strength of the plot and characters will grab you by the throat...pun intended.

"Dark Matter Heart" has a significant "replay" value. As soon as I finished, I flipped back to page one and started the journey all over again. It's a page-turner, but it's rich with detail, and multiple readings will be rewarded. Parents, teachers, readers of any age...this one's a great investment for your imagination!

With Cor Griffin, author Wrann has created a character with multiple layers, someone that will appeal to the often jaded or reluctant readers of Young Adult novels... without pandering to them.

Sure, vampires are all the rage these days...but with "Dark Matter Heart", it won't be dying any time soon!

Bring on Book Two! And kudos to Dalton Gang Press on the quality release!

Dark Matter Heart reminded me of one my favorite series The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod. I totally enjoyed Dark Matter Heart it was a light easy read that was suspenseful and kept my attention. I like Cor's and Taylor's character. This was another refreshing novel that had the best friend accepting that their best friend may be a supernatural creature. I like how Nathan made it seem like you were guessing between if Cor was a vampire or just had a weird allergy to the sun. I really liked Taylor and his geekyness for science and criminology...I really have a soft spot for geeks. The suspense of the murders around town reminded me of the many murder mystery TV shows and I liked that I personally didn't see who the murderer was and the shocking twist at the end of the story. I'm hoping that Nathan will continue Cor's story as I really enjoyed it

4.0 out of 5 stars Dark Matter Heart July 26, 2011
Format:Paperback
So, going into this book I was thinking that it might be a typical vampire read. Thankfully I was wrong.
Yes, Cor prefers to come out at night.
Yes, he has to drink blood to live.
But he's not 100% sure that he actually IS a vampire, and that's what I loved!

When mysterious murders start happening the day that Cor & his mom move into a small Pacific Northwest town, Cor's hopeful new beginning is squashed. All he wants to do is be invisible, not make friends, and graduate.
On his first day of school he meets Taylor. He's the nerdy, future scientist type who instantly takes a liking to Cor. There's a companionship that they share, forging them together as the outcasts at school. This is fine with Cor, invisible is great in his book, but when Caitlyn catches his eye he can't help but feel the pull he feels towards her. Well, Caitlyn's jock boyfriend notices too and makes sure he makes his point.
With threats, and a beating that should leave him like a vegetable, Cor can't seem to shake how drawn to her he is. But with evil lurking and striking the ones he's come into contact with, Cor must keep those close to him safe and bring the evil in his life to an end.

Cor was a great character, developed, interesting and completely down to earth. I enjoyed how vampireism is explained in this book. It's not about a huge race of vampires trying to take over, hell, Cor doesn't even truly know he's a vampire. He's unlike any vampire character that I've ever come across and it was refreshing. Throughout the book you learn more about Cor, his mom and what secrets there are in his life. As he seems to be discovering new and potentially scary things about who he really is, murders and accusations are popping up at every turn.
