From my point of view Scott Holt is one the best "young" blues guitar players around. Along with Joe Bonamassa, Sean Costello, Shawn Pittman and few others he deserve to be considered one of the best. With this CD he demonstrates what he is capable of. What a great modern rock-blues album it is! With the support of his band and, most notably, with the support of Double Trouble and The Band of Gypsys he delivers such a great set of modern blues music that will leave you speechless. His guitar work is simply outstanding throughout the album and the support of such great musicians make this CD an absolutely gem. Highlights of the album: "Dimples" (just a superb version) and "Right place, wrong time" that I'm sure made Otis Rush jealous! An absolutely essential addition to your collection of blues music!

I grew up in Montreal which is one of Buddy Guy's favorite Canadian destinations. After the first time me and my buddies went to see Buddy Guy live we decided to see him every chance we got and waited anxiously during each show...to listen to Scott Holt play. This CD captures a brilliant guitar player at his best. I always enjoyed the more rockin' blues and boy does this rock. I'm also a guitar player, and this CD will blow any avid blues/rock guitar player away. I found it amazing that Mr. Holt captured his live sound so exactly on this CD. Bravo... I hope more people start praising the newest older guitar whiz on the block. Say goodbye KWS and Jonny Lang. There is a new sheriff in town and he will blow your ears off.

Wow. I knew that he's playing with Buddy Guy, and that's why I bought this CD. I don't regret a penny. What a great modern, electric blues. Listen to the song with Buddy Guy, incredibly funky, and a great "crosstown traffic" too. A fantastic guitar player who's well accompanied : Double Trouble and Band of Gypsys.

I have seen Scott live. He is a really exceptional player. I saw him with Buddy Guy and twice solo. His stuff solo is just as good as with Buddy. The idiot that said he couldn't play Hendrix must have been smoking something. I saw Scott do Hendrix to perfection! Besides it's easy to review a guy and really put him down when you're scared to leave your name and email address! ala "A music fan". How about being a man and not a coward! Scott is well versed at blues and had the best teacher that a guy could get with Buddy. For crying out loud Hendrix used to steal licks from Buddy. Besides that capturing Hendrix on tape is much harder than you can imagine. Go try it yourself "A music fan" then I'll have some respect for your comments.

Top Notch Electric Blues Rock,
By Eric Ornella "Seeker of the Sublime" (Cincinnati, Ohio United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)

If you like Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, or any guitar oriented, hard rockin', electric blues then YOU WILL DIG THIS CD. In the the tradition of Jimi (included here is a great cover of Crosstown Traffic) Scott Holt takes a classic song by Bob Dylan, in this case "You Gotta Serve Somebody", and absolutely nails it. Another standout cut (esp for those with 'relationship' problems) is "All You Give Me Is The Blues", with its near classic refrain. When you add in the special guests (including Buddy Guy himself), this CD pretty much has it all for guitar lovers like me. As for only giving it 4 stars: I am an extremely tough grader who reserves 5 stars for albums I consider to be ALL TIME classics. My advice? BUY THIS CD NOW! And go see Scott Holt playing with Buddy the next time they come anywhere near to you.

This is an excellent CD. His blues guitar work and vocals are top notch. I really enjoyed the covers of "Train in Vain," "Crosstown Traffic," and "You Gotta Serve Somebody." If you like blues-rock guitar, this is worth checking out.

Blues Rock at its Finest,

WOW!! What more can I say. This is a solid collection of the finest blues rock out there. It's one of those cds that everytime I listen to it I hear and appreciate some additional nuance or expression from Scott or another band member that I somehow missed before. Scott Holt deserves to be in your blues collection, and you will be doing yourself a real favor to put him there. Give it a listen, it sells itsself.

Holt may well reach the standard of those he has been influencedby, but not yet. This is a good blues cd but not a great or original one. He sticks to the basic blues formulae and I don't think he is good enough to instill his own signature to the tunes he plays, consequently they are all fairly straight and recognisable blues fare. What is amazing is that DOUBLE TROUBLE, when backing him on 4 tracks lift the sound to another level, something the other backing bands don't manage. It is nowhere near as good or as original as DAVID GOGO, VINCE CONVERSE,ERIC GALES or SCOTTY HENDERSON,COLIN JAMES and MARK MAY amongst others. Had to add another star as 4 weeks listening revealed enough quality that escapes on first listens.
