From the Back Cover

#1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan revisits and expands her classic novella Dark Descent, bringing to breathtaking new life her story of an immortal Carpathian hunter, a beautiful adventurer, and their dangerous journey toward an unforeseen destiny and an undying love.

In a cave of mystery and wonder deep in the Carpathian Mountains, bodyguard Joie Sanders encounters a most remarkable being. Proud, strong, immortal, he is called Traian—an ageless hunter locked in a life-and-death battle with enemy vampires—and he will be her salvation in a labyrinth protected by the ingenious traps of a mysterious ancient race. What awaits them in the darkness is not known, and each step could be their last—as their destined path leads them toward a fiery passion that will illuminate the perilous dark night.

Also includes the previously published Carpathian short story Dark Dream.

These were the first paranormal series I read and Christine Feehan is the best.

As usual her story line is never boring from the start to the middle to the end.

The book contains two previously released novellas by Christine Feehan. If you follow the series and haven't already read these stories, or if you desire to keep all books/stories within a series shelved together, than this book will be a good purchase. Being short stories, we aren't being bogged down with the Carpathian angst with the darkness in their souls.

If you are new to the series, this isn't a bad place to begin, although starting with Dark Prince is a better choice. But if you've read the stories and are looking for something new, you won't find it here, even with the enhancements made to Dark Descent.

Dark Descent was first published in the anthology "The Only One." It's the story of Traian & Joie Sanders and our first glimpse into the mage ice cave and the existence of the dragon line. In this story we learn that master vampires are working together to rule the world, a theme carried forward from here through the series. I believe it's also the first story since Dark Magic to bring Gary back into the picture and in this one he meets Gabrielle, Joie's researcher sister.

The author has enhanced the original story, although since it's been so long since I had read it, I couldn't point out to another exactly where. There were a number of times where I thought something might be new. Over half of the story still deals with finding Traian and escaping the cave.

What I really like about this particular story is that Joie is such a kick butt character, both mentally and physically. We don't just get a heroine but an enter family and you won't find a "victim" among them. Well at least we meet and interact with her brother and sister.

Although I've already read both stories in previous books, it was nice reading them again. Christine Feehan adds additional information and storyline to Traian and Joie's story, and she did such a great job. It gave me more insight into the both of them. In it's original version I thought it was too rushed for me to really enjoy it even though I did because it was a great one. But at the time if felt she could have added more details, and it would have made it better. And it did. Awesome writing, just like the first Dark Series that got me hooked in the first place. Falcon and Sara's story wasn't added too, but I enjoyed rereading it. Again, it was written well and the chemistry of both couples were spectacular and it was great seeing some of our old favorites.

So, like many fans, I've been disappointed by CF's latest offerings, because it feels like they've lost that special 'something' that set her apart from most other romance writers on the planet. As such, I picked up 'Dark Nights' with considerable trepidation, because 'Dark Descent' was arguably my favorite Dark novel and I also greatly enjoyed 'Dark Dreamer.' I had also taken the time to re-read the initial novella printed in 'Dark Prince ('Dark' Carpathian Series).'

I was very pleasantly surprised to find that the additional 100 (or so) pages were wonderful fillers, fleshing out every character more fully, expounding on existing situations, and creating more unity between this book and the stories falling later in the Dark timeline -- all while seamlessly blending with the existing history and backstories.

After the (partial) success of 'Dark Storm (Carpathian),' which I did like, for the most part, this revision is an encouraging sign. I hope CF is able to maintain this level, because THIS is the author I first met, and the one who has made a loyal follower. There aren't many.

I am very disappointed in this book after the long wait. I thought I was getting a new book, but instead got an expanded version of two previous books. Very dissatisfying. Hopefully she will expand her list of characters in the Dark Series. I don't care for the leopard people series.

My one star rating is more about Ms. Feehan than this book. I first purchased this under the original title, "Dark Decent" and was disappointed by how short it was. I feel as if I am being cheated by Ms. Freehan. She has added length to an already published story. If you already purchased the original book, you should be allowed to download an updated version. Many other authors allow this on Amazon.

This book had me in tears, rooting Falcon and Sara on! You begin to fantasize what it would be like to find a person like that, to be caught up in that whirlwind of Magic, Seduction, and all consuming Love!
Christine, can't wait for the next installment of the Carpathians!! Love them

When I preordered this book the description did not advise that this was an enhancement of an earlier book. there is no changes from the previous book and a rip off. disappointed in Christine for trying to trick her audience... reminds me of nora roberts tricks... waste of my money!

this was already one of my favorites in the series but with the expansion it is more so if possible and the addition to Jubal's story should make for an interesting book when he is the main character - still waiting for the rest of Gabrielle's story too
