The Dark Path of Our Names is Joan Swift's third collection of poetry. Part I deals with the poet's life, past and present, her grandparents, her parets' divorce, the coal-mining country of her girlhood, her husband and daughters, her travels and observations of the natural world.

Part II, Testimony is a sequence of twelve poems, each the utterance of some participant in a recent rape and murder trial in Oakland, California, in whih the poet herself was a prosecution witness.
