the book held my interest and is an easy read. The hopelessness of the families situation, especially Ben's made the book feel longer then it was. The vicious and selfishness of Runner, Trey, and Diondra was exhausting and sad to read. Also, it all tied up so neatly in the end that it felt contrived.

A great read as Ms. Flynn introduces you the style if writing that she will perfect with "Gone, Girl". She certainly has a gift for portraying strong, flawed women as protagonists that you can't help but root for despite their borderline sociopathic personalities. Highly recommended.

I absolutely loved this book. Libby is a real person, and while others found her somewhat unlikable, I fell in love with her. She isn't a heroine you expect.

Just read it. And skip all the reviews practically rewriting the book. Why does everyone always have to do that these days..

This was a great story that kept me on the edge of my seat wanting to read more. It was, however, too gory, at parts, for my taste. I wanted to put it down because I was getting nauseous (yes, I'm a wuss), but kept picking it back up to find out what happened next. Not the best bedtime book.

I just discovered Gillian Flynn, and I have to say that this book was well worth the read. The characters are well defined, the writing style crisp and delicious. This book kept me up at night; I just couldn't put it down! What a delight! Gillian Flynn is my new favorite author. You go girl!

Enough prose to delight but easy enough reading that you can breeze through it in a few days... This book keeps you guessing and wanting so badly to get to the end to where the mystery is solved but at the same time you don't really want it to end! I can't wait to read Gillian's other novel!

This book was a page turner. I couldn't put it down. It was one of those books that you dream and daydream about. It has a crazy twist at the end that made me saw "wow" outloud. I would recommend this book to anyone that can handle misery and anguish and who doesn't have a weak stomach.

I read Gone Girl and really liked it, so I read this one. Like Gone Girl, this one had alternate present tense and then flash backs. And also like Gone Girl, it also had a surprise ending that I did not even think was coming. If you liked Gone Girl, I think you will also like this one.

Libby is just hard to like, and that's what makes this book so great-- she is not going to pour her heart out to you, and she isn't going to apologize for her failings, which are many. I haven't read Gone Girl yet, but I do recommend Dark Places for a moody, disfunctional gothic thriller.

I got to tell you that I loved this book. I thought it was bettter than Gone Girl. The main character was so fragile, and strong at the same time. Gillian Flynn did a great job of showing a flawed character that everyone could relate too. If you liked Gone Girl give this one a chance.
