Nice old school goth,

I bought this album on a whim, and have never regretted it. It's got a great mix of mostly English goth bands who started the whole scene. Bauhaus' "Bela Lugosi's Dead" is a real classic of course and the anchor for the rest of the album. I also especially enjoyed the aural wash of Love and Rockets' "Saudade" While a lot of the album could be described as somber rock, it ends on a goofy note with The Cramps' "Goo Goo Muck," an irreverant take off on old American horror movies. Great liner notes with pictures of all of the bands too. I can't recommend this album enough.

Best,
This review is from: Dark Pleasures: Gothic Rock Collection (Audio CD)
This has got to be the number one greatest gothic compilation I have ever heard. Rather than sticking really bad darkwave bands on a really bad compilation, they stuck amazing mind bending music on here. This is goth to a "T"Psychological, is another way to put this. At least in the sense of artistic imagery in the mind of an efeminent artist. I highly recomend this to both new kindergoths (god knows they need to stop M.M) and the elder goths (who need to losen up a little towards the younger generations). |
