2.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing
I purchased this with high expectation, but I found it boring--no real connection between the heroine and the hero---and too steepled in details. I started skipping pages, and the next thing you know I skipped a chapter--and after that I just toss it in my donation basket.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mysterious!, August 11, 2007
This review is from: Dark Prince (Paperback)
Jane Heartherington is a woman whose strength and integrity shine from the start of this work until the finish. My heart joined with this woman as she struggled with the hand that life had dealt to her. Haunted by the past and the death of her beloved mother, she is thrust into the center of a well-thought out plan of revenge against her father and soon Jane belongs to Aidan Warrich, as her father betrays her love and cast her away as payment for a debt of long ago. Her life is no longer her own as she struggles to learn the truth behind the debt she is paying, the truth of the man who now claims her as his own, and who her father really is and what is the secret of his past; now she is plunged into a life plagued with mystery and danger.
Jane never figured into the equation that she would fall in love with her captor, nor the fact that she would eventually have to face the entire truth of her father, no matter how terrible it might be. What a ride of a read this one is.
Our author, Eve Silver has taken in my opinion a giant leap in her writing. This work is laced with mystery, love ,and twisted half truths that leave you baffled trying to figure them out. Good job! I was glued to this book from beginning to end. It is one filled with heated emotions, unquenched anger and deep seeded obsessions that desperately need closure, yet laced within and brought to the surface is a love deeper than the sea that will leave you breathless at the conclusion. This is an outstanding read and one I am proud to give my recommendation to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark Prince, September 6, 2007
This review is from: Dark Prince (Paperback)
Jane Heatherington has just found out her innkeeper father has to sell her into indentured servitude or lose the family inn. Jane has just met the new owner of Trevisham House. He can be no other, with his power, his proud bearing, and his confidence. He intrigues her.

Aidan Warrick is a man with a dark past. He sees Jane as the daughter of the enemy he hates, but at the same time he is feels protective, and something even more personal when he looks upon her. His life has not been easy and revenge has become as much a part of him as the act of breathing.

The longer they are together the more the attraction hits them.

Dark Prince is a dark, bittersweet and moody romance. It drew my attention and held it. I enjoyed the characters and their developmental growth. Eve Silver has written a book that one does not want to put down. I suggest this book for a quiet night when you want to read an intelligent romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Gothic Romance!, August 7, 2007
This review is from: Dark Prince (Paperback)
Put together a dark and stormy night, shipwreckers, smugglers, and rumors, a brooding and handsome man, a beautiful, but flawed woman sold into bondage, and a story packed with suspense! That is Eve Silver's new release Dark Prince. Ms. Silver has brought back the classic Gothic Historical with an extremely well-written and developed story and characters. A book that simply cannot be put down and a great late summer read!

The moors of Cornwall is the backdrop to the intrigue. When the dark, handsome Aidan Warrick shows up for revenge against the father of the beautiful and crippled, but not helpless, Jane Heatherington, sparks fly and rumors and gossip of death and destruction abound. Jane has suffered emotional and physical abuse by her father for years. He has blamed Jane for the death of her mother, which just happened to be the same accident in which Jane also became crippled. His rough verbal abuse, together with the physical abuse of making her work long days and nights at his local inn, has not broken Jane's spirit. So when Aidan shows up and forces Jane's father into signing her away as a bondswoman into the service of this handsome, dark, and mysterious man, her kind heart and optimistic spirit agrees, feeling the exchange of one cruel life for another in order to save her father from ruin will be difficult and one more thing she will have to endure. But Jane is surprised and confused when Aidan turns out to be kind and protective to her and her feelings of hurt and frustration over her crippled emotional and physical life. As Aidan and Jane's attraction and desire grows, the struggles of their past blend into their current relationship, and the reader becomes intrigued by more than one outcome. Who is the local shipwrecker that has been responsible for so many deaths for so many years? What will happen to the beautiful Jane, now signed away to another life of service? What are the deep, dark secrets of Aidan Warrick at Tevisham House?

What is most enjoyable about this book is that Ms. Silver has accomplished what is difficult for most suspense writers. The true villians are unsuspected and there are many surprises at the end!

Dark Prince is an excellent story and a book not to be missed. Fans of the Gothic will definitely be adding this book to their collections, awaiting the next release!

Another winner by Eve Silver! Didn't expect to like it so much but again great story, believable romance, not-perfect characters creating a realistic yet exciting plot and love story. I love how she writes and how her stories develop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark Gothic, April 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Dark Gothic romances are one of my favorites and this one does it better than most. It keeps you hanging on the edge of your seat as romance and danger increase. I'd recommend any of Eve Silver's historical romance novels to anyone. I've never read her paranormals, so you're on your own with those.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just what I want..., August 25, 2009

"He took one step toward her, hands fisted at his sides, and the mask slipped a little. 'Tell me why you bid me go when your eyes plead that I stay'"

I was in absolute awe from page one. Eve Silver doesn't dance around to draw you in...she does it from the first line..."Desperation made for a poor walking companion".

Lost 1 Star for...

~...The story was told from Jane's POV and I really felt like I missed out on half the tale. I would have loved the oppurtunity to feel the pain and raw emotion from Airan's POV... but for some reason (word crunch maybe?) we didn't get any of his perspective. I usually shy away from books like this because as we all know there are always two sides to every story.

~...It just wasn't long enough...I hadn't yet had enough of these very unique characters and their lives. I was very upset that by the time I started reading I was already through...

Gained 4 Stars by...

Giving me what I want when I crack open a romance novel; chemistry, characters I won't forget after I turn the last page, hot, hot and double hot love scenes, and last but not least a love between two people that if they'd never met would never have been whole otherwise.

Eve Silver just made herself a new fan!

2.0 out of 5 stars Gothic novel rates just 2.5 stars, June 5, 2008
This review is from: Dark Prince (Paperback)
Dark Prince is a pretty good mystery with an average romance, and a mysterious hero and a heroine that were at times loving but also a bit churlish.

Jane Heatherington's father owes hero Aidan Warrick a lot of money which he cannot pay, so to satisfy his debt Jane becomes a bond servant to Warrick. She hates Aiden but is also attracted to him. He is dangerous, but kind and she is aware that his hostile feelings toward her father are more than just about money; there is real animosity between them.

As his bondservant, Jane really does no work but is in Aiden's house as more of an honored guest. She notices all kinds of shady things happening around Aidan, a dead woman is discovered along the Cornish coast, ships are lured into wrecking against the rocks, and smugglers and violence seems to accompany him wherever he goes. Twice Aiden saves Jane from impending rape and death from smugglers.

Jane's interactions with Aidan range from hostility and resentment, to pleading and finally love. She is lame and he is the first man to really notice her as a woman but when Jane discovers his quest for vengeance against her father she is determined to stop him.

Aidan is a great hero and one thing I disliked immensely about his book is the reader never gets his point of view. The novel is told entirely from Jane's perspective. Aidan said that Jane brought laughter back into his life but she never was witty or very clever, so I did not see how he interpreted her somewhat resentful remarks as humorous.

As mentioned earlier, the mystery surrounding Aidan and the Cornish coast is good and I really liked how the book ended. All the storylines were tied up neatly. This gets two and a half stars. I wish Ms Silver had revealed Aidan's inner thoughts and I wish Jane were a bit more colorful. She was almost boring in the first half of the novel only showing her personality through hostile dialogue with Aidan.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not much Gothic, August 12, 2007
This review is from: Dark Prince (Paperback)
This is not a good book, not even an interesting gothic tale of suspense and dark mystery. Unfortunately it is a rather dull, illogical story.
If Gothic is trying to revive, this is not going to help the process.
Jane Heatherington is literally 'sold' by her Cornish innkeeper father, to repay his gambling debts,to the new local mystery man, Aidan Warrick. There is a dire history here, but Jane is immediately whisked off by this abrupt gentleman in his coach and more mysterious, portentious events follow.
For 'orrible 'orrors there is a nasty drowned woman on the beach, vicious slimy smugglers with large threats, swirly fog, dreadful secrets, wreckers, murders, our tortured hero and more swirling fog ...
Should have added up to tension and seat-of-your-pants excitement - except it didn't, because it was so very predictable and our heroine was up there with the TSTL brigade.
Shame really, good Gothics are practically non-existant. Go and read an old Victoria Holt instead.
