The Dark Reaches is highly satisfying conclusion to the trilogy begun so promisingly with The Hidden Worlds, and continued with The Cold Minds. At the heart of this book is a more mature relationship between the two protagonists, which I enjoy very much. And if there is less tension between Linnea and Iain, that is more than made up in the more sophisticated interplay of desperate loyalties and deceptions that drives the plot, and brings the characters into such clear focus. And there are enough surprising (but quite believable) plot twists to keep the pages turning infectiously (I read the book in less than 24 hours, despite a full day of work in between).

The Dark Reaches is clearly the product of a talented and hard-working author who continues to hone and deepen her skills! I look forward to her future works.

The Cold Minds are ruthless machine intelligence that for years have enslaved humans. They destroyed Earth hundred of years ago and now they're back to take over the remaining humans whom have made their home on the Hidden Worlds. Pilot Linnea Kiaho and Iain sen Paolo are determined to fight with everything they have to stop the Cold Minds, especially when they hear word that some humans might have survived the Cold Minds' takeover on Earth six centuries ago and how they still are somewhat able to live in a ravished world that became the center for these machines.

Both Linnea and Iain embark in a dangerous trip to found these humans, risking their lives to discover how it was possible for these people to survived while pretty much surrounded by the Cold Minds, an unbelievable ruthless race. But what they never thought about was who or what they were going to find in this forgotten and strange new Earth and how the people there would welcome them, as lost brothers or enemies.

The Dark Reaches is the third book in Landon's series, following Linnea and Iain's adventures. These two main characters are more than fellow pilots, they're also lovers and that definitely adds more tension to the story. While the story certainly touches on their relationship, it doesn't take away from the plot line of finding the humans who have survived the Cold Minds. This book is a quick read that will easily suck you in with great descriptions and complex characters. Sci-fi fans will definitely enjoy The Dark Reaches.

Easy reading. It is part of series. I find it helpful to read in order. Caught my attention that I wanted to sit down and read it non stop. Am looking forward to more books in the series.
