Originally released in 1980, Dark Room was the fourth album from Australian rock band The Angels. Sometimes known as Angel City or The Angels From Angel City, The Angels were one of the most consistent (and, sadly, consistently overlooked) bands in the Australian rock scene. They had a more melodic sound than AC/DC, and were very influential on American bands like Great White and even Guns n' Roses.Dark Room is a terrific example of The Angels' sound, and features one of their better known singles in "Face the Day," a song that Great White later covered (and still plays live). It's an album that's accessible without going into AOR territory. It rocks hard, but not so hard it would chase the average fan away, and the band hit the right balance between darker themes and good time rock n' roll. There are moments on the album that bring to mind Thin Lizzy, April Wine, early Styx and even TKO, but The Angels really had their own sound. If you're a fan of the late `70s and early `80s hard rock sound, you really need to have some Angels in your collection. I'd probably start with Face to Face, but Dark Room is also well worth picking up. Edition Notes: Dark Room was reissued in 2006 by Liberation Music. The reissue features digitally remastered sound and a hefty nine bonus tracks. The bonus tracks include alternate versions of songs on the main album, plus other original material. I don't think it's the definitive version of the album, as there are songs missing that were on the US version. Still, it's a great-sounding reissue and it's hard to complain about having "only" 18 songs.

Was a big fan of this album when it was released in 1980 and have been trying to get a copy of the CD for 20 years. This re-released version has 7 of the original 9 songs from the US version of Angel City Darkroom. Unfortunately one of the missing songs is "Ivory Stairs" with the other song being "Straightjacket". The other 11 tracks are for the most part forgettable. Still I would recommend it to anyone that was a fan of the original album.
