About the Author

Angie Sandro was born at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri. Within six weeks, she began the first of eleven relocations throughout the United States, Spain, and Guam before the age of eighteen.

Friends were left behind. The only constants in her life were her family and the books she shipped wherever she went. Traveling the world inspired her imagination and allowed her to create her own imaginary friends. Visits to her father's family in Louisiana inspired this story.

Angie now lives in Northern California with her husband, two children, and an overweight Labrador.

In the beginning of "Dark Sacrifice" Mala LaCroix finds herself locked in a mental institution. On the other side of town Landry Prince is staring out from behind the bars of his jail cell. Needless to say things have gone a little downhill since the previous book.

Not only does Mala have to watch for vengeful spirits out to get her she now has to worry about the living as well. A cold blooded murderer will not rest until Mala and Landry are dead and in the ground.

On top of all that Mala has no choice but to keep the deal she made with the devil and travel to New Orleans to be trained by her Aunt Magnolia.

This book was just as good as the first one in my opinion.

There was never a dull moment, from the first page to the last I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happened.

While this book is filled to the brim with witches, ghosts, curses and black magic galore Sandro's characters and their lives feel undeniably real and completely relatable.

I cannot wait until the next installment in this series.

Until next time,
Ginger

Book two starts about a month after the events of the first book in the series, with Mala locked up in the psych ward and Landry in jail. Mala is getting use to seeing spirits and has a new skill of astral projecting, where against her will, every night she goes to check on Landry. Mala does not want to be tied to him, instead she would rather focus on her new relationship with her long time crush George. One night while “visiting” Landry, she sees him get attacked by his cellmate, and die. Landry is brought back to life, but something came back with him. Now that both of their lives are irrevocably changed, the two need to join together to fight this current battle against evil.
I am absolutely in love with this series. I can honestly say it is not like anything I have read before, and I have devoured these books. That is not to say that there are not things that drive me insane, but the plot is so engaging. There is ghosts, astral projection, magic, curses, voodoo and an evil queen, hate crimes, murder, mystery, love triangles, passion… There is so much going on that I am sure I missed listing something, but I was too busy living it right along with the characters. Just an FYI, this is not a standalone book, it needs to be read in order otherwise the plot might not make sense since this book starts right in without too much rehashing of the story (which I am a fan of).
I love that the book is told from both character’s points of view, alternating between chapters. Sometimes there are parts left out that the reader desperately wants to know, but we can only know as much as the narrator knows. All the details are eventually revealed since it switches back in forth.

Took me quite a while to write this review, mainly because I had quite a bit of conflicting emotions in regards to the story-line. Did I not like it due to the fact that I did not read Book 1, Dark Paradise? Or did I just really not like the plot, or was it just the main character? While this book was very well written, descriptions were dead on and the author did know much of comings and goings in the Vodoun world, the plot in itself could use a little more help. Not to mention the main character could use a definite reality check and grow up. "With great power, comes great responsibilities." That saying is true with more than just super heroes. When you wield magic as powerful as what Mala LaCroix holds within her very soul, one cannot just dabble into it, begin a drastic spell, then stop in the middle and say, "Oh, never mind", especially when dealing with other people's souls.

Mala LaCroix is the last living LaCroix, a family of extremely powerful Voodoo Queens. As such she is next in line to the thrown when her Great Aunt passes on to the other side. An aunt whom she has promised to be an apprentice to, and learn how to wield her dark art. But when the time comes she is less than enthused. But with enemies from both sides of the grave out to kill her, maybe going with dear old Auntie isn't such a bad idea.

Landry Prince has escaped the hands of death once again. Only this time, he hasn't come back alone. There is a demon living beneath his skin, devouring his soul with every breath he takes. And the only one he can rely on to rid himself of the demon in the Voodoo Queen herself, Magnolia. The question in that scenario, at what lengths will she go?

I received this for an honest review~

Long after the fires burn out and speculation is running high Landry has all the time in the world to question every action that lead to him being in jail. Better yet being prosecuted for the murder of Ms. Jasmine, Mala's mother. How can she ever love or trust him now?

"You wouldn't let me help her. Mama died because of you!" "I hate you , Landry!"
Mala~

Famous last words from Mala at the end of the first book, funny how death really helps put things in perspective and I don't mean Ms. Jasmine's.

While Landry is pensive in jail Malaise LaCroix is in no better shape herself! Trying to keep her cool in the Psychiatric ward of the hospital, counting the days till she can be released. She is so filled with grief after what happen to her mother, her only comfort at the moment is her long-time heart throb George coming to visit her. Only too late does she realize his intentions were only a band aid to the real problems afoot. Truth is being locked up hasn't kept her from roaming , astral projection has given her freedom to do as she likes. It seems watching over Landry Prince in jail is what she has a taste for.

"The scent of orchids overpowers the stench of Caleb, and I draw in a deep breath. My muscles relax, and the ache behind me eye drains like water trickling down a drain.
She's here."

"A tiny piece of me hopes the reason Mala comes to me every night isn't to plot her revenge but `cause she still cares"

Both excited to have real freedom yet taken back by all the threats lingering unseen.

Acker man is back an full to the brim with rage is he, fueling his spirit making it a formidable foe. Plus a mysterious 4th man on the loose trying to bury loose ends from Ms.
