This is more horror than fantasy, but for me that's a good thing! The main characters are very good, and overall it's a great story. But be warned that it ends on a cliffhanger that is resolved in the next book (I hope!)

At first I thought this was the last book in the series. Thank god it wasn't. I would have got a refund if it had. Total cliffhanger that really would have upset me. Left so many questions still unanswered as well as new ones. Thankfully she will be making another one. Overall a great series but the total cliffhanger at the end of each book totally has you screaming when you finish it.. Especially if there wasn't another one coming...

This book was not a good read for me. I will not be buying the second series. Yes it did have a lot of grammar issues but that was not the problem for me. I did not enjoy the story. I found myself just reading on, hoping it might get better, but it never did. Rarely were there any questions answered. The title of the book should've been "I can't tell you", because anytime any of the characters asked a question that was the answer. And the book ended this way as well. Also Sophie's development of relationships just seemed unbelievable. Without giving any details away it seemed like the author was trying to add sex and romance into the book without any substance or build up. It was like, nice to meet you, wanna see my boobs. So obviously this was not the book for me, but it still got good reviews as well. So maybe it will work better for you.

This is the first in the Dark Season series. The second series is already available. The third and final series is supposed to be available beginning in November with the final "chapter" coming in January.

When I first began reading this book, it was very confusing. There is a good bit of jumping around and new characters are added frequently without you knowing ahead of time whose thoughts/story you are reading. Because of this, I found myself having to go back and re-read the beginning of chapters once I figured out who the story was about at that time. I was also frustrated with the fact that one of the main characters doesn't speak...ever. There are times when you finally get to hear his thoughts, but other than that, nothing. In spite of these things, I really liked the story. It is different than the other vampire love stories I've read...much darker and way less love story. But it is very interesting and a good story. There's always something new to keep you interested and wondering how Ms. Cross is going to be able to bring it all together in the end.

The plot and characters are very interesting. The character relationships are also very memorable. It's one of the top vampire series i have read, so if you are looking for some action and excitement, you should give this a try!

It's a beautiful concept. A vampire, a prophecy, and a girl. What's not to love? Why is he silent? No clue. Why doesn't he give some idea how he feels to the girl? Again, no clue. Why does he rage? Nope...no clue, other than "He hates vampires!" The girl was inconsistent and weak. It made me not like her very much. The storyline, the concept of the story... WOW! So frustrating. The characters had no depth, inner dialogue was vague where I wanted more detail, and everybody treated the girl as if she was stupid. AND she let them! A great premise but missing so much.

I bought the Kindle version of Dark Season: The Complete First Series.
The story in itself is rather ok but on almost every page there were mistakes: grammatical mistakes, typo's and sometimes even the wrong name (Vincent instead of Patrick), which made the read rather annoying and made me wonder if the story was written by a person who had full knowledge of the English language or gave the impression of being a translation of a questionable quality.
I wouldn't suggest the Kindle version and have doubts whether the printed version would be better.

I kept reading hoping it would make sense at some point but it never did. The story was supposed to take place in the U.S. but there are so many obvious British phrases used that I kept mentally hearing everything with British accents.

The author seems to also have a problem following through once they started taking the story in a certain direction. It was as if mid paragraph she would change her mind and head off on a totally different storyline without bothering to make corrections to what had already been written, which only made things more confusing.

The characters are shallow and come across as helpless idiots except for the vampire Patrick and the only thing that saves him is that he doesn't speak.

For the record, when Sophie is in the ditch in 1917 and says she was born 90 years later that would make her born in 2007 making her 6 years old now. Nowhere in the book does it say that this story takes place in the future. The book is full of things like this. Again, more confusion.

The story is good but the spelling and grammar was off. The language was much to be desired. It took too long to get to the point and it never explained enough of the back story of Patrick. It took too long to get to the prophecy about Sophie and didn't explain it.
