Wonderful memories and rare recordings!,
By Mr. Wynn (State of Confusion) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dark Shadows: The 30th Anniversary Collection (Television Series Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
This CD is not just a compilation of Dark Shadow's soundtrack but also includes great rare pieces. What's great about this CD is that IN ADDITION to the music that we are familiar with from the show, we get alternate versions that had been released at the time as well! We get not only the original versions of the theme song, Quentin's Theme and other memorable tunes, they also offer extended versions and more orchestral versions of these favorites and more! One of my favorites is Track 18 (Barnabas Theme from Dark Shadows by the First Theremin Era). It's like a 60's groove-a-licious version of the theme song! Groovy baby! I would recommend this to Dark Shadows fans and those who love classical and instrumental music.

This CD should be called Dark Shadows Rarities,

This review is from: Dark Shadows: The 30th Anniversary Collection (Television Series Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
This CD has ALMOST all of the original series music cues except for some that were frequently used but never included on any of the 6 CDs.Everything from the first episode opening to the last spoken by Thayer David is truly magnificent. There is Quentin's Theme before it was even realized,Robert Cobert's Orchestral non-soundtrack renditions and Charles Randolph Grean's rare out of print 45's.The short Music Cue Medleys I & 2 are truly a masterpiece! For the Romantic there is the I Want to Dance with you,Joanna(From the last half of the series run)A saxophone dinner dance version that was never used from ''Night of Dark Shadows''The 1969 Fan Club greeting is ultra-rare,The First Theramin Era's take on DS sounds very much psychedelic. The radio spots were a real treat! This CD is a real asset for a DS Collector.

Great for any DS collector!,
By Nancy Jane Carmen (Iowa) - See all my reviews

I highly recommend this cd for any Dark Shadows collector. I ordered it for one track only - "Quentin's Theme" by the Charles Randolph Grean Sounde. This single was popular on AM radio during the summer of 1969, when the 1897 story line was playing on DS, and it also happened to be one of the best summers of my life. This cd is also full of all kinds of other interesting and hard to find DS music tracks, so it is really a great item. I remember some of the other "easy listening" arrangements of the DS music being played on local radio stations, so it's a great memory maker for me. Ah, to be 13 years old and that carefree, again... thanks for taking me back over three decades.

A wonderful CD,

This fascinating album is a collection of tunes drawn from, or inspired by, the television show Dark Shadows (1966-71). It begins with the opening from the first episode, and then launches into the music. Most of the tunes are not directly from the show, but were remade to make them sound even better. Overall, I thought that this CD should be purchased alongside the Original Music From Dark Shadows (available here as well), which it complements wonderfully. As with any old fan of Dark Shadows (although I was quite young when it was on), this album brought back a lot of old memories, and even gave me some new ones. The Ode to Agelique, in particular, is quite excellent. That said, there were a couple of tracks that I didn't care for, especially a comical Barnabas song. So, I would recommend playing this CD with the last three tracks left off of the playlist. But, that said, I did find this to be a wonderful CD, one that gave me many hours of listening pleasure. If you like Dark Shadows, or if you just like good music, then I highly recommend this CD to you.

Probably the Best DS album out there,
By Marcus Collin (NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dark Shadows: The 30th Anniversary Collection (Television Series Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
With the first and last words of the series on here, how could you go wrong? This album gives fans almost everything they want from a DS album. The highlight being the Randolph Graen Sound tracks. The quality is probably as good as you can get from these pieces, considering how old they are the condition they must have been kept in. If you're a fan, this is a must. Enjoy!

This is by far the best musical compilation released in conjuncture with the brilliant daytime gothic soap, "Dark Shadows". The musical tracks flow beautifully and it is a stark reminder of the depth and brilliance that went behind creating one of the landmark shows of television. The set also includes the Quentin Collins / Pansy Faye duets of "I Want To Dance With You" - which is as lush, rich and rewarding when first heard on the series back in 1969! A great soundtrack - not only for fans of the show!

One of the Best Sondtracks Recorded For DS!,

I have listen to this CD several times, and my favorite is the piano version of Quentins Theme track 3 and #1 At The Blue Whale (The Charles Randolph Grean Sounde) - track 8.I also enjoyed the piano version of "I wanna Dance With You " track 13. I have always enjoyed the Quentin's Theme but the only other album that has this cut has David Selby singing in it in the Original DS Soundtrack Deluxe version.

Some Beautiful Music,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dark Shadows: The 30th Anniversary Collection (Television Series Soundtrack) (Audio CD)
This is kind of a catch-all album, neither all beautiful instrumentals nor all suspense background music. It must have been designed to provide fans with pretty much all the previously unreleased music cues AND with the rare, out-of-print versions of Cobert's pop songs written for the show. Bits like the rare radio commercials bring back images of the creaky soap opera and contrast jarringly with the lush orchestral scores. I would have preferred they made two albums out of this, but the absolutely beautiful piano version of the Dark Shadows was worth the price for me. I wish they had used it in one of the movies or something.

If you remember the show you know the music but maybe you have never heard it in cd form. IT IS AWESOME. Yes it sounded great on TV but wow in digital it is so MUCH MORE DYNAMIC. Hear the tunes and relive the memories. This is a favorite of Elvis And Meat Loaf
