Chilling good fun,

Wow, these are the best episodes yet. The creepy fun continues with Magda facing a ghostly gypsy jury for stealing the hand of Count Petofi. With a nod to the Portrait of Dorian Gray, a portrait of Quentin painted by Charles Delaware Tate seems to have *absorbed* the curse - but what does the devilishly evil Petofi want in return for granting such a boon? And what power does Tate have that he can draw a vase, a brooch or even a person and they come to life?
Edward is cured of the madness cast upon him by Petofi, but Charity Trask continues to think she's dancer/singer Pansy Fay (delightfully played by a scene stealing Nancy Barrett). Barnabas is captured and faces destruction, but he's able to *send* a letter to Julia Hoffman in the present and she uses the I-ching wands to come to the rescue - but she might be needing some rescuing herself. Petofi continues his mad schemes to escape the gypsies and hopes to use the wands to escape to the future, but he needs to find the right door and he's happy to find other folks to experiment for him and suffer the consequences of using the wrong door. This set also brings Angelique back with a stronger storyline as she's blackmailed Quentin into marrying her, but she's in for a surprise as Kathryn Leigh Scott returns as one more reincarnation of Josette - Lady Hampshire - and she and Angelique take an instant dislike to each other. I hope there's more cat-fights coming in the next episodes :) There's a delightful twist at the end between Petofi and Quentin that will have you on the edge of your seat waiting for the next installment, so I'd recommend you have it on hand and ready to pop in the DVD player. I've seen some comments on the other reviews about the quality of the packaging in these later editions and I have to agree it's not up to par with the earlier sets. I've been getting these through the library so they've received plenty of not-so-gentle handling and the sleeves are torn and the DVD's fall out and get banged about quite a bit.

I don't understand the negative comments from one of the other persons posting here regarding the packaging that the Dark Shadows DVDs are issued in. MPI Home Video has done DARK SHADOWS and its fans a wonderful job over the past 20 years in making all 1,225 episodes available on VHS and DVD -- and in top quality fashion, not to mention bonus interviews on EVERY disc plus many other exciting features on special releases such as DARK SHADOWS BLOOPERS & TREASURES, DARK SHADOWS REUNION and DARK SHADOWS SPECIAL EDITION.
In fact each of the 4-disc Volumes of episodes have featured collectible photo postcards as well as 6-page brochures with thumb-nail episode synopsis (with original airdates) for easy and quick reference as well as additional photographs. I have had no problems with the standard plastic packaging that holds the DVDs and all the other fans I've spoken with have been equally pleased and grateful for these releases. What other serial -- and program with over 1,000 episodes -- is available in its entirety on DVD? DARK SHADOWS is a wonderful escape into a world of Gothic mystery.
