Chilling good fun,

Wow, these are the best episodes yet. The creepy fun continues with Magda facing a ghostly gypsy jury for stealing the hand of Count Petofi. With a nod to the Portrait of Dorian Gray, a portrait of Quentin painted by Charles Delaware Tate seems to have *absorbed* the curse - but what does the devilishly evil Petofi want in return for granting such a boon? And what power does Tate have that he can draw a vase, a brooch or even a person and they come to life?
Edward is cured of the madness cast upon him by Petofi, but Charity Trask continues to think she's dancer/singer Pansy Fay (delightfully played by a scene stealing Nancy Barrett). Barnabas is captured and faces destruction, but he's able to *send* a letter to Julia Hoffman in the present and she uses the I-ching wands to come to the rescue - but she might be needing some rescuing herself. Petofi continues his mad schemes to escape the gypsies and hopes to use the wands to escape to the future, but he needs to find the right door and he's happy to find other folks to experiment for him and suffer the consequences of using the wrong door. This set also brings Angelique back with a stronger storyline as she's blackmailed Quentin into marrying her, but she's in for a surprise as Kathryn Leigh Scott returns as one more reincarnation of Josette - Lady Hampshire - and she and Angelique take an instant dislike to each other. I hope there's more cat-fights coming in the next episodes :) There's a delightful twist at the end between Petofi and Quentin that will have you on the edge of your seat waiting for the next installment, so I'd recommend you have it on hand and ready to pop in the DVD player. I've seen some comments on the other reviews about the quality of the packaging in these later editions and I have to agree it's not up to par with the earlier sets. I've been getting these through the library so they've received plenty of not-so-gentle handling and the sleeves are torn and the DVD's fall out and get banged about quite a bit.

GREAT SHOW AND GREAT PACKAGING,

I don't understand the negative comments from one of the other persons posting here regarding the packaging that the Dark Shadows DVDs are issued in. MPI Home Video has done DARK SHADOWS and its fans a wonderful job over the past 20 years in making all 1,225 episodes available on VHS and DVD -- and in top quality fashion, not to mention bonus interviews on EVERY disc plus many other exciting features on special releases such as DARK SHADOWS BLOOPERS & TREASURES, DARK SHADOWS REUNION and DARK SHADOWS SPECIAL EDITION.
In fact each of the 4-disc Volumes of episodes have featured collectible photo postcards as well as 6-page brochures with thumb-nail episode synopsis (with original airdates) for easy and quick reference as well as additional photographs. I have had no problems with the standard plastic packaging that holds the DVDs and all the other fans I've spoken with have been equally pleased and grateful for these releases. What other serial -- and program with over 1,000 episodes -- is available in its entirety on DVD? DARK SHADOWS is a wonderful escape into a world of Gothic mystery.

Rating for MPI 's awful packaging. NOT for the Dark Shadows series,

It's amazing I'm the only one that seems to be displeased with MPI's shoddy packaging of the Dark Shadows series. I have had to send for replacements of my DVD sets countless times throughout the past couple of months. I don't like the way they cram the DVDs in frail holders which constantly has resulted in the tabs coming loose & falling in the case. The tabs which contain the DVDs are NOT secure & I've been discovering more & more that there are usually a couple of tabs missing.
I LOVE Dark Shadows & have been very pleased with the packaging & care put into collections 1-14. Unfortunately MPI seems to have laxed since then & have shown little regard for how they package & market these sets. The trouble had began with volume 15 onwards & I've been having trouble ever since. DVDs become dislodged & slide back & forth within the case due to their ever-broken holder tabs. I can't tell you how many discs have been badly scratched on account of this! This is NOT a result of the DVDs journey to me, it's most certainly due to MPI. I read that Amazon had discontinued their line of volumes 1-8 from (Dark Shadows) *The Beginning* series for awhile (they've since started issuing them again) as customers complaints were very similar to mine of the inferior care put in to their DVD sets. I'm very upset that MPI is cheap in their care of marketing these sets & felt compelled to pass my experience with this matter along to others who may be experiencing the same trouble.

I love the whole "DARK SHADOWS" series. I especially LOVE Jonathan Frid who plays the Vampire so well.
I would love to get the whole collection. I also want to thank "AMAZON.COM for your choices of sellers. I ordered my last DVD from BARGAIN MOVIES who were very prompt in sending it.

Barnabas Collins first in collection 6,

This review is from: Dark Shadows: DVD Collection 16 (DVD)
I have been renting the Dark Shadows beginning DVD collections from Netflix and collection 6 is the first time we see Barnabas Collins, the vampire. It's also the first set to be in color. I have read that Collection 16 is the best so I have that one on my wish list to buy. The others I will continue to rent because I dont have room to store all these DVDs. If you do there is a great special of the entire collection for only $200. Check for it on Amazon. Like everyone else I first saw a glimps of this show when I was 12. I just recalled the series lately and looked it up. I am enjoying it very much. I am from Maine and the references to Bangor and the coastal areas seem familiar to me, As do the characters. Even 30 years later, The storyline still seems current and not forced. I guess that's why it's still around.

I was only 11 years old when Dark Shadows went off the air. I was still a big fan. When PBS started broadcasting episodes during the 1980's, I was hooked all over again! For anyone who saw the original and enjoyed it, the DVD's are excellent. The quality is amazing and the interviews are priceless. Reintroduce yourself to a piece of nostalgia.
