About the Artist

Daniel Robert "Danny" Elfman (born May 29, 1953) is an American composer, best known for scoring music for television and film and creating The Simpsons main title theme as well as the 1989 Batman movie theme. He was the lead singer and songwriter for the rock band Oingo Boingo, from 1976 to 1995. He has scored the majority of the films for his long-time friend Tim Burton.

Born in Los Angeles, he entered the film industry in 1976, initially as an actor. He made his film scoring début in in 1980 for the film Forbidden Zone directed by his older brother Richard Elfman. He has since been nominated for four Academy Awards and won a Grammy Award for Tim Burton's Batman and an Emmy Award for his Desperate Housewives theme. Elfman was honored with the prestigious Richard Kirk award at the 2002 BMI Film and TV Awards. The award is given annually to a composer who has made significant contributions to film and television music.

Most of us know what we're getting with a soundtrack to a Tim Burton movie. He regularly calls upon composer Danny Elfman, of the famous 80's group "Oingo Boingo", to score his movies. He's got a dark and fun distinct sound. This was one of the few soundtracks from a Tim Burton movie where I had to get the entire soundtrack. I saw a screening of "Dark Shadows" and absolutely loved the movie! The music flowing through it was exceptional. I bought this CD which is the entire musical score. It's eerie, ominous, melodic and powerful.

There is also a second Dark Shadows soundtrack they put out which is all Classic Rock hits that were featured in the movie. That soundtrack doesn't seem to be available in CD format, but you can buy it on iTunes for $9.99. I have that as well. It rocks!

Although it was disappointing that the classic Dark Shadows theme from the original daytime series,
primetime series and first feature film, House of Dark Shadows, was not utilized anywhere, it is
terrific to hear that composer Elfman has paid homage to classic Dark Shadows music composer Robert
Cobert by adapting a style that is similar to the soundtrack that graced the earlier versions of
Dark Shadows - including distinctive vibes and a rich orchestral sound without an overload of
instrumentation.
If you enjoyed the music from Dark Shadows of the 1960s and 1970s, which spun off a top 20
album on the Billboard record charts -- and a hit song with "Quentin's Theme," then you will be
quite pleased with this new offering from the 2012 motion picture produced by Tim Burton and starring
Johnny Depp.

I purchased the cd and to my dismay, everything was spelled incorrectly. The name of the governess to the name of the house. I cannot believe there was no proof reader to correct all these mistakes. As far as the music was concerned, I was very disappointed.
I grew up watching the original Dark Shadows and truly loved the Robert Cobert's original score. The theme of the series should've been utilized but after viewing this "film", I am glad it wasn't used. This was not Dark Shadows, this was a travesty and mockery. I hated it. I am glad it flopped big time at the box office.

Love,love,LOVED the movie! While I was too young to watch the original series, the revival was fantastic and so was the movie. Johnny Depp is amazingly talented and this movie had it all. I purchased this soundtrack this past Saturday and while I thought it was going to have the famous 70's hits on it, this music is hauntingly beautiful; a great CD to play while handing out candy on Halloween. If you are an avid fan of Dark Shadows, you cannot go wrong!

I approached this movie and the score with trepidation. As an original fan from the 1960's I already was looking down upon Burtons take along with Johnny Depp, one of my favorite actors. As time grew closer for the release, I allowed myself to ease my trepidation as I read Katherine Leigh Scotts new book. Knowing they (4 of the original actors) would show up in the movie as well as Alice Cooper, gave me some hope. As the opening music flowed hauntedly across my ears, I was elated. Like Coberts haunting woodwinds brought the original Dark Shadows to the forefront of music scores ever done for Television, and of course his dramatic orchestral prowess, Elfman's Score carries a feeling of eeriness with great touches of Cobert. As it goes along it occasionally goes for the bombastic but not so much as to lessen the haunting element of the movie. I could review the movie as well but I will leave it with Elfman's prowess at creating great moods for film.
