5.0 out of 5 stars a great starting place
i'd never seen "dark shadows" before (it's before my time), but heard a lot about it and decided to buy a video. i love it! this video is good because it condenses the episodes before the introduction of barnabas in about a half an hour, then shows many episodes. simply put, it rocks

5.0 out of 5 stars Why did Buffy never run into this guy?, July 2, 2006
This review is from: Dark Shadows Vol 1: Resurrection of Barnabas [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Having only seen the first two VHS tapes in this series, I am astounded by its pure awesomeness! Dark Shadows plays on some of the most eerie campy camera techniques available at the time, and it seems that every scene ends in some sort of closeup/implication of double meaning. It'd be like, "So, are you staying a while, Barnabas?" And then there'd be an extreme closeup and he'd say, "Perhaps for quite a while," in the most eerie voice he can manage. It's creepy in that hilarious campy way that everybody loves.

My mom use to watch this show, and she told me it was filmed in front of a line audience, so sometimes a character would forget his lines and have to improvise. This is pretty obvious particularly when the young boy does it.

I greatly enjoyed this both because it was creepy and because it was pretty funny. Great to watch with family or friends, and I'd say this would be the highlight of your halloween bash.
