5.0 out of 5 stars Baby Anne does it again.
DJ Baby Anne takes this album to the next level. Her first two mix-CDs were 100% Miami bass breaks, but Dark Side of the Boom is a hybrid of the Florida Breaks we expect fused with the more popular Trance sound. Overall a great CD.

3.0 out of 5 stars Darkest bass in the whole damn place
This cd should be a bass cd instead of a breaks one. This is some really dark kinda bass/breaks,different than what Im used to hearing. This is really not one of my favorite albums,it's way too bassey to be considered really good, and missing some of BA's original style. The only good thing about this album is that it's got the bass and I mean da bass to make your woofers...

4.0 out of 5 stars Her best work yet, September 26, 2001

I'm usually the first one to put down breaks, but this is without a doubt Baby Anne's best work. The breaks are dark, heavy, electro flavored, and it features my all time favorite breaks track, "Let it Go", by Con. The mixing is better then she's ever done, she actually gets props for this one. Good job Maryanne.

Baby Anne has not really delivered a hot mix since her first mix CD Bassqueen in the mix. The 2nd release Bass Queen in the mix 2 was rather boring compared to her previous work and to many other releases that year. Dark Side of the Boom tough has much more energy and is all in all a good CD. The mixing is Ok but nothing special. There are some really awesome tracks on there but some of them I heard on many other CD's before. If you get lots of breaks mixes on a regular basis u might find a lot of stuff on this Cd u have heard already a 1000 times otherwise don't even hesitate to buy it. There are a few new tunes on there one of them is Baby Anne's nu release Probe which really rocks. Chris Gallagher - Rippin' up wax is new as well and delivers. It's one of the better releases this year and should have been the follow up to Bassqueen in the Mix. If you want to hear this years hottest Breaks release tough get Dj' Iceys new CD The Breaks Element.

3.0 out of 5 stars Jeff, October 19, 2002

I picked up this CD 4 months ago on an impulse buy. Its decent and I would say its her best work to date. I am a huge breaks fan, but Florida Breaks are my least favorite. She definitely keeps the bass heavy and chooses some good tracks. But overall this disc, as well as a lot of Florida Breaks, is missing one key element..."funk".
Its not a bad CD to have in your collection if you really want to push the bass on your stereo. But I would reccommend that you pick up some Canadian Breaks DJs or UK Breaks. I think the best breaks DJs in the world are coming out of Canada.
If you want to hear some good, funky, dirty breaks pick up Slammin the Breaks 2 by Krafty Kuts (UK) or anything from Czech (Vancouver) before you get this.

I bought this based on reviews of "Bass Queen in the Mix." To me it sounds like the West Coast edition of Northern Exposure without the 4/4 house beat. In other words, its very electronic sounding, almost completely non-vocal and not very funky at all. I listened to "Eargasm" by Plump DJ's and Icey's "Funky Breaks" after this and it's definitely missing variety, skill in mixing and that "neck snapping" funky quality that make the Plumps and Icey so indispensible. Not too bad but not that interesting either. I prefer her "Mixtress" and still have not heard "Bass Queen..." BTW, my speakers are flat down to below 30 hz and I didn't find the recording quality or the bass that impressive. Listen to Crystal Method's "PHD" or "Block Rockin' Beats" by Chemical Brothers after this to see what I mean.

DJ Baby Anne is by far, the best DJ I have ever heard. If you like DJ Baby Anne, listen to Infected Mushroom. They have an awesome album too. My favorite on that album is, "Mushi Mush". Baby Anne, don't stop the beat girl!!
