What can one say about this album other than it's really, really, really good?
Basically you don't have to be a music fanatic to love this album and to know that this album will still be listened to for a long time.
It's great in stereo, but the SACD 5.1 Multi-Channel Surround Sound in a good system is an experience not to be missed.

Considering I love progressive rock from the 70's, my favorite would be Echoes, but hey, I realize most people don't like many songs longer then say 9 minutes, and Echoes is 24 minutes, lol.

I think it would have been difficult to get mainstream acceptance with Barrett's avant-garde improv approach. Pink Floyd turned out fine without him.
