Interesting Research - Same Answer,
By
This review is from: The Dark Side of the Supernatural: What Is of God and What Isn't (Paperback)
Have you ever wondered about the weird stuff the kid next door was into? Is Satanism really evil? How about witchcraft? Do UFO's really exist? In Dark Side of the Supernatural: What is of God and What Isn't, Bill Myers and David Wimbish have put together a fairly comprehensive book covering everything from vampires to channeling to Wicca. For the most part the authors come to the conclusion that the vast majority of the supernatural and paranormal are directly the work of Satan and demons. They take seriously the possibility that people who become fascinated and intrigued with much of the paranormal, or worse yet, participate, take seriously or act as a witness to its practices, are opening themselves to demonic possession. That having been said, the chapter dealing with angels didn't necessarily follow the same mold as the subsequent chapters in that the authors have informed us that there really are angels who come to earth. But just to make sure that those who claim to be angels aren't actually demons, the authors gave a series of tests for the angels to pass (to prove they aren't demons). I would imagine that the authors of this book would say that the book is for anyone who is interested in the occult, UFO's, extra sensory perception and the like, but from the parameters set in each chapter - describing the supernatural subject of each chapter and then "uncovering" it as a sham, then giving a Biblical explanation and Biblical remedy - the people most likely to read this book are evangelical Christians. The book was well written and very interesting but at the same time the authors could have saved us the time reading it by putting in the first chapter the statement "All of this is from Satan and demons - Beware! Keep your interest in the paranormal at your own peril!"

I found it biblically sound in it's facts. This was inspired and informative, fresh and innovative. Any good Christian would have to agree with the authors of this book. Cleanly written and easy to understand.

Cheated and lied to! lol,
This review is from: The Dark Side of the Supernatural (Paperback)
I give this book one (lovely) star. I am quite fond of this book. It brought me a lot of thrills and sensationalism when I was teen. How people who are into vampire things (like Twilight) can lose their minds and suck your blood any minute! How a day playing Dungeons and Dragons will have you shooting up the school and thinking your Dungeon Master abilities actually apply to real life (without needing to roll dice!) How spiritual contact with angels and ghosts are really contact with Satan deceiving the planet! It's one of those things that makes you want to wear a "Superman" t-shirt whilst informing the world of "Truth"!Haha, fortunately, I'm not a teenager any more. And I've done a lot of sinful things: like read Twilight and (*GASP*) play Dungeons and Dragons (with the correct ambiance and everything!) Have I shot up a school? No. Do I think I really AM Dungeon Master to real life even though I'm told I make an awesome one in the game? No. The only thing even remotely unhealthy in my engagement to D&D is my attraction to the Elves. xD (Little joke.) But seriously, this book is highly misinforming. Basically, anything from New Age to video games is Satanic in nature. A lot of the claims made can be researched in Google, only find they are completely void of validity except for Christian websites. In the examples like with D&D, a LONG list of tragedies were given with horrendous graphics like "DM slits a 13 year old girl's throat and rapes her!" but no names or accounts are given that such an event even occurred. OR, if it was done *because* of the game. Again, absolutely horrific and thrilling for a horror movie... but c'mon... give me some actual validity here. Also, a lot of the claims are mindlessly tacked with irrelevant things. Like, "A group of thieves and murderers, with an interest in the occult, murdered a young girl on the street!" Um.. yeah. That's like me saying "A group of hoodlums, with an interest in Christianity, slaughtered some guy on the street!" The implication is heavy that because of said interest, the crime was committed. Lol Imagine seeing that claim about Christians and then going online for more information about the crimes, only to find that the only information you come across are poorly made MUSLIMS sites! Something would be highly suspect. x) Anyway, the book is good for Christians with a specific set of mind. It does exercise the Christian values like 1."Turning to Yahweh" 2."Turning to Yahweh" 3."Turning to Yahweh" My only problem is that many people can "turn to their god" in many different forms. There's nothing wrong with customizing the world to suit your religious needs. I've seen Christian campaigns of Dungeons and Dragons, for example. (I imagine they don't summon demons or deal with other gods other than Yahweh, or play darker characters.. lol) I know Christian goths, Christian occultists, Christian Jews, hell even Christian Witches! So what? Humanity is diverse. It would be a crime to label us, as I just did in the small list above. This book does exactly that.

A Must Read!!!,
This review is from: The Dark Side of the Supernatural (Paperback)
I began my spirtual journey by reading "New Age" books, then God grabbed a hold of me and showed me the real and only Truth there is, which is through his only Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. But, even though I've been a Christian for some time now, I still always wondered what the big deal is with horoscopes, channeling angels, crystal power, spirits from the other side, ect. and other sorts of "new age" occultism. I heard the answers before, but never really truly understood them. But now from reading this book, I understand and realize the true danger of opening ourselves up to all of that. I've read the reviews that said this book was biased and just a great big lie, but I see now that they don't know what they just read. This book is a must read for those who are wondering why "new age" and other occult subjects really should not be messed with.

Most thought provoking read,

This review is from: The Dark Side of the Supernatural: What Is of God and What Isn't (Paperback)
As residents of North America, the supernatural is not foreign to us. It is a phenomenon that is explored frequently, more so in the past couple of decades, in movies, books, and shows that inundates us daily. Even though it is spun in a positive light, many of the aspects of the supernatural are extremely deceptive and not beneficial for Christians.Bill Myers and Dave Wimbish use this book to provide important facts and truths about the supernatural that is in direct opposition to God's Word and His ideas. The authors explore angels and demons, Satanism, UFOs, ghosts, near-death experiences, witchcraft and many other mysterious practices or ideas that the general public does not have much information about. They also explain in detail the impact or importance of each of these aspects of the supernatural on a person's mind and spirit. I found this book to be very informative. The Bible tells us that, "People perish for lack of knowledge." If we do not have knowledge about the bad side of the supernatural, we are more prone to jump into such things. This eye-opening book provides the right answers about the negative side, especially for the 21st century. I would highly recommend this book to teens and students entering high school since this can serve as a guideline to the things that you should stay away from. The book is written in a very informal manner, as if the readers are listening to a talk by the authors. It is also written in a way that enables the book to be used as an easy reference. Each chapter is dedicated to a certain topic, so readers will not have to weed through the book to find particular information. As a whole this book is fresh, informative and very eye opening and it is definitely recommended for all age groups. After all, being informed is being prepared!

Sometimes the Truth Hurts,

This review is from: The Dark Side of the Supernatural (Paperback)
If you are seeking a Biblically truthful guideline for your spiritual journey you will find this book very helpful. Those who have actually read their Bibles will know that Christ warned us about many of these same pagan practices and beliefs that are presented in The Dark Side of the Supernatural.

I was so happy to find a book explaining the supernatural and what we are up against as Christians in a way that was very easy to understand. I would recommend it for anyone who has any questions about astrology, phychics, hypnosis, UFOs, demons, etc. Well worth the read.

Great book but not exactly what I was looking for, most of the information I was already aware of. I was looking for more information on demonic manifestations of "vampires." Author Rebecca Brown, gives an excellent scripture reference Psalm 57:4 in her book, He Came to Set the Captives Free.

Bill Myers is not trying to insinuate that yoga,ESP,reincarnation, channeling, vampires, ouiga boards, etc. are evil and should be avoided to be admitted to heaven. He is just saying, "watch out and tread carefully". Some of these activities can lead to more sinister activities to an impresssionable, open mind. (Although I think yoga is stretching it a little.) He discusses what the Bible teaches about the supernatural and paranormal. It is very Christian-based and Bible-based. It is very informative, interesting, and thought-provoking. Satan can use just about any outlet to get into an impressionable mind and corrupt it. An excellent read.

This is a very unique book from a very unique perspective. People who ascribe to any sort of average mystic, paranormal, new age, and alien beliefs and practices will probably find this book not to their liking. Mostly because it claims that all areas of existance, when it comes to the supernatural/spiritual realm, are of either two types: (1) God/Holy Spirit/Angels or (2) Demonic entities that are in rebellion against God and who seek to deceive and to endanger human lives and/or souls. The authors' book is mostly personal experiences backed by personal research and Bible passages. Now those who do not believe in the power of the supernatural will not like this book much either becuase it sugests that "the dark side of the supernatural" is nothing to make fun or light of. And that peoples lives can drastically be affected by the paranormal/supernatural. According to the book, demonic entities are very old (accumulated knowledge from ages past), deceptive, cunning, powerful, dangerous and will trick anyone and everyone into either believing that there is no such thing as a spiritual realm (especially that they don't exist) or they distract people from God by creating supernatural activiy (ghosts, aleins, sorcery, pyschic abilities, demonis possesion) that tricks people into beliving that they cannot know God or need him. It's like the demonic put on whatever costumes and perform whatever acting that suits their agenda at the time. But the "light" side of the supernatural is a powerful relationship with God that can bring freedom, grace, forgiveness and power and the ability to "test the spririts". Angels are explained as being very self-effacing only doing what God wants and not wanting human attention or adoration. Whereas Demons parading aroung as angels will want attention, praise, adoration and control. I think that anyone willing to look into the supernatural will enjoy this book whether they agree with all points of it. Two of the only other books I have found that are similar to this title (I like even better) are Don Basham's book Deliver Us from Evil and No Small Snakes by Gordon Dalbey
