3.0 out of 5 stars Dark Sky
When one of the men she put in jail gets out, Juliet Longstreet finds herself right in the middle of danger, not an unusual position for her, considering her job, but the fact that her present situation endangers her niece, is unacceptable. U. S. Deputy Marshall Juliet Longstreet returns, this time as the heroine in her own book. Juliet is a dedicated, determined woman who has dedicated her life to law enforcement. One of the people she has put away, Bobby Tatro, has been released from prison. His last words to her was a threat to get her when he got out. Not that she is terribly worried about it, threats like this go with the job. Unfortunately, this time is the one time it is for real.

Ethan Brooker is Special Ops, he has finally come to terms with his wife's murder, a year ago. The murderer was finally captured in the last book in this series. He worked with Juliet on that one too. Afterwards he disappeared again. Now he turns up in her life after finding her picture at the site of a kidnapping in Columbia. Ethan has moved on but he has not forgotten Juliet.

Juliet, Ethan, Bobby and several other political figures are being manipulated by an unknown person or group. Several grudges are held against both Juliet and Ethan. While trying to capture and torture Juliet, her niece is attacked by Bobby.

Both Juliet and Ethan seem to be pushed in a certain direction. As things heat up, between them, they also heat up in the investigation. Someone seems to know too much about both Juliet and Ethan. When both wind up in Vermont at the Longstreet farm everything breaks loose, Ethan is not sure he can even trust old friends. However between the two of them and the rest of Juliets family everything comes to resolution.

Very good book. Exciting, full of suspense, one of Negger's best books. If you like a good gripping read, this is it.

When one of the men she put in jail gets out, Juliet Longstreet finds herself right in the middle of danger, not an unusual position for her, considering her job, but the fact that her present situation endangers her niece, is unacceptable. Working with a man she could love if he could get past the ghosts that haunt his memories, she tries to keep from becoming the prize in a game of revenge more twisted than she knows. The true villain is not who she thinks it is, and that could cost her, Wendy, and Ethan dearly.

*** Though this story does not rely heavily on knowledge of the prior book in the series, there are spots where that would make the reading easier and perhaps the confusion that arises at some points could be avoided altogether. However, longtime fans of Ms. Neggers will undoubtedly be thrilled with the results of her work. ***

4.0 out of 5 stars tense romantic suspense thriller, July 27, 2005
New York based Deputy U.S. Marshal Juliet Longstreet knows she must be cautious as Bobby Tatro was just released from federal prison after serving four years. He vowed to avenge his arrest when Juliet took him down in Syracuse and she believes this violent man will come for her. In New York she finds her apartment house doorman murdered and her place searched as if someone was looking for an edge to get at her. Wanting to insure the safety of her family though most are law enforcement types, Juliet vows not wait for Tatro to make any more moves.

While she searches for Tatro, former Special Forces officer Ethan Brooker seeks the actual killer of his wife though he helped expose Nick Jannsen who called for the hit on his beloved Charlene. He believes that they have a mutual enemy as Tatro pulled the trigger. Ethan keeps Juliet on edge more so than the killer coming for her, but she persuades him to team up to keep her family safe as Tatro is coming for them.

The latest Carla Neggers deputy US Marshals tale is a tense romantic suspense thriller in which the lead couple tracks down a killer while trying to ignore their attraction to one another. The joint investigation seems at first simple enough to the lead pair and readers, but takes twists into a deadly conspiracy in which avariciousness leads to homicide and places her family at risk. Though similar in tone to previous tales like NIGHT'S LANDING, Ms. Neggers' fans will enjoy this strong tale while wondering if Juliet can capture her men, one to lock away and one to shower with love.

The third in a series that Carla Neggars has written, she knows the spy and criminal background and she uses them well. Keeps you guessing and I enjoyed the book very much. Plan to read more of her books.

4.0 out of 5 stars The story continues for fav character Juliet Longstreet, April 24, 2009
This review is from: Dark Sky (Hardcover)
Dark Sky continues on with the ongoing story introduced to me in Cold Ridge but this time focuses on fav characters of coffee guzzling/hard headed Juliet Longstreet and strong, silent/focused Ethan Booker. The story line allows the reader to find out more about Longstreet and Booker who were introduced in Night's Landing and whose characters are continued on by Negger in Abandon. This book is a five star for the romantic hearted readers who hope the best for these to characters.

The temper of the story line is quick witted, fast but tempered with Neggar's usual stunning visuality of words to draw the reader into the scenic view of the story setting - in this case Vermont and New York.

Negger quickly focuses her readers to the known character traits of her central characters - the heroine - Juliet Longstreet ;quirky and dry - witted, hardheaded and driven but highly likeable. And the hero - Ethan Booker; mysterious, highly disaplined but equally hardheaded and driven as Longstreet.

This novel by Neggar will be a favourite of fans who love linking story lines. Through 'Dark Sky' once again Neggers is able to continue to allow readers to be kept up to date with fav characters while introducing new ones. For new readers however, the story line at times is mystifying and the plot disjointed. Looking at this from a new readers point of view or Non Negger fans, the plot may not strong enough to sustain ongoing interest in the reader without going to the last page.

But, reading as an ongoing fan who is familiar with the story line, Dark Sky is a great read. Keeping my interest and finding the story line clear and still highly entertaining.

One definitely for Carla Negger fans and a must try for new readers wanting to read a novel which is entertaining and humourous.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ms. Neggers does it again!, August 16, 2005
I am a fairly recent reader of Carla Neggers' work. When I first picked up one of her books, I quickly found as many of her past works as possible in my favorite used book store. Once read; I had to wait anxiously for her next book. I wasn't disappointed in her latest, Dark Sky. It was an exciting, nail biting adventure. Although I was able to figure out who the "bad guy" was fairly early on; it was still a great book to get lost in! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good romantic suspense.

2.0 out of 5 stars I feel very different, May 21, 2010
This review is from: Dark Sky (Mira Romantic Suspense) (Mass Market Paperback)
I guess the other reviewers don't know about the better romance authors out there. This book was ridiculously lacking in passion and love. It wasn't intense at all, like some people said. I wanted to like this book, but it was so boring! I could not relate to any of these characters because their feelings were never described. And there was so many other characters that were not important to the main plot. Juliet and Ethan were a bit...cold to each other. I could not feel any spark between them.

Then one day he stays over her house. And the next morning she wakes up to the phone ringing, and remembers all the sex they had.

They had sex? Really? I don't remember that happening. Why didn't Carla write about this?

The book wasn't horrible, but it was definitely not something to rave about, like I thought it would be when I read the reviews.
