5.0 out of 5 stars You only live twice (with a million deaths in between) November 4, 2012
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Well, these are exaggerations on both counts but... you get the idea.

I am posting this mainly for the first time buyers so I will be talking about the game in its entirety rather than discussing mainly the expansion - PS3 gamers who somehow missed the original Dark Souls and now have the opportunity to try out the vastly expanded edition. Anyone who has the original game has or should get the DLC from the PlayStation Store, no need to buy a new disc-based game.

I do not consider myself a hard core gamer but there were a few grand games that I played hard and long on the PS3: Oblivion, Fallout, Grand Turismo, Demon's Souls, Dark Souls. Of these, Demon's Souls and Dark Souls are the only Platinum I've ever earned and I probably did way over 1000 hours of pure fear, strong anxiety and intense frustration punctuated by brief moments of pride and joy brought by the hard earned sweet victories.

I started talking about Demon's Souls because to us, PS3 gamers, Dark Souls is NOT the first coming of unspeakable terror onto our consoles. Dark Souls is the SECOND coming. And what a visitation this is :)

For those of you who played Demon's, what follows is a brief comparison between the two Souls games. For everyone else it's just a hint of what you may find in what I view as the most innovative RPG game that was ever released for a console - can't speak for PCs because I don't play too many big PC games.

Deomon's Souls had many, never-seen-before, amazing innovations.

5.0 out of 5 stars PS3 Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition January 25, 2013

Couldn't be more pleased. I ordered what was listed as a used game through the seller. What I got to my surprise was a brand new copy. It did take a while in transit from London to the U.S but that I expected. As for the game, having played the hell out of the original I knew what to expect. Call me old fashioned ( I refuse to buy DLC ) but to me this is the only way to play this game. globalgames did not disappoint .

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic new online PVP edition January 18, 2013

This review is from: Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition (PS3) (UK IMPORT) (Video Game)
I was hesitant to buy this because of compatibility issues but I'm glad I did. The case reads Region 2 and PAL but it plays just fine on my US bought PS3. I began with the XBOX version of Dark Souls (which is great too) but on XBOXlive you need to pay to play online. So when the new DLC Artorius from the Abyss was being released I thought I'd wait for the Prepare to Die Edition for the PS3 and purchase it as well. I couldn't find a US version that included the DLC so I bought the UK version. The new online PVP capabilities are just fantastic. It's a little like the old Demon Souls PVP. I hate it when high level invaders kill me but I just indict them right away so they can be invaded by Darkmoon Knights later. Summoning is great too. Artorius is crazy fast and poisons you and rots your armor so after getting killed enough times on my own I summoned a player to help. Immediately after the summoned player appeared I got a message that yet another player had invaded! With the red phantom in sight I quickly walked into the fog gate and so did my summoned guest. This is, as every Dark Souls player should know, the only way to banish an invading red phantom. This summoned player was a high level Sorceress and she helped me kill Artorius with her Sunlight Spear and my upgraded Gravelord Sword. Dark Souls players are the best.
