A must have horror anthology,
By
This review is from: Dark Voices 5 - The Pan Book of Horror (Mass Market Paperback)
I have several hundred anthologies, so I'm rarely sad when I finish one because more are waiting in the wings. However, I was terribly sad to see this book end. This tome collects the best of English horror writers. I cannot tell you how haunting, how captivating most of these stories are. Even the worst story in here is average, and out of the twenty stories I would say there's only one or two average stories here. Most leave you in suspense throughout and thinking about them long after you're actually done reading the story.
A complete list of the stories contained are ** Having his leg Pulled by Robert Holdstock ** Back Row by Brian Lumley ** Precious by Roberta Lannes ** The Editor by Nicholas Royle ** The Ventriloquial Art by Graham Joyce ** Phantom by Melane Tem ** How She Dances by Daniel Fox ** The Dog Park by Dennis Etchison ** Gerassimos Flamotas: A Day in the Life by Simon Clark ** Arrangement for Invisible Voices by Kathe Koja ** The Lady of Dubh`an Alla by Brian Mooney ** Loser by Les Daniels ** Life Partner by David J. Schow ** Sustenance by Kim Antieau ** Stone Dead by Jean-Daniel Br`eque ** La Sieta del Muerte by Jeff Vandermeer ** The Disobedience of Mary Thompson by Peter Valentine Smith ** Where the Bodies are Buried by Kim Newman ** Red-Bellied Ghosts by Myrna Elena I cannot recommend this book enough. If you're tired of average anthologies, if you want a book that will ignite your passion for horror again, then treat yourself to this rare beauty.
