Growing away from fear and fear based symptoms can open vistas of thought and understanding that otherwise might never have come into being. Life is a winding path and you truly don't always know what is around the corner, but sometimes what you see is breathtakingly beautiful.
Opal Rose is not a clinician or a psychologist but has simply shared thoughts about what could happen as a result of trauma and about moving on. She shares only from her own point of view while recognizing that each person is an individual and when recovering from trauma at least, each person is a work in progress. She found that healing from posttraumatic stress could lead to differences in outlook, a different future or perhaps one that’s been rearranged, and this means looking forward, not back, although there are always pitfalls along the way because it’s life. She mentions that healing neurophysiology is important and that one’s spirit plays a huge role in the healing process. Her experience with posttraumatic stress is the basis for writing Dark Water: Stress After Trauma.

Draws directly from her own life experience,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dark Water: Stress After Trauma (Paperback)
Author Opal Rose draws directly from her own life experience in Dark Water: Stress After Trauma, a self-help guide to learning how to effectively cope with the fallout of severe trauma. Written in a conversational tone accessible to readers of all backgrounds, Dark Water adopts the view that a person suffering from post-traumatic stress has been injured as a whole being, and the entire neurophysiology needs to heal. Chapters discuss "Living with Recurring Symptoms and Startling Insights", "How does it Feel, to Feel?", "What Do You Do After Trauma?" and much more. Though Opal Rose is neither a psychologist nor a clinician, her honest appraisals speak directly from the heart of one who has been there, suffered that. "The bottom line is that it's necessary for you to figure out how you feel about being injured, how you deal with your anger and hurt about that, how you approach others who might be uncomfortable around you, and how you approach yourself and your future. Please remember that help for all of this is a good thing and that you don't have to undertake the healing process by yourself, even though you probably feel very alone now and then."

An invaluable read for those struggling with the after affects of trauma and also for those seeking understanding of a relative, friend or aquaintance having a difficult time coping (in this day and age of sexual and domestic abuse and so many veterans returning home with emotional and psychological wounds, that pertains to just about all of us). Well worth the time to read.

This review is from: Dark Water: Stress After Trauma (Paperback)
This book is about healing from posttraumatic stress. It is about understanding what happens when one is experiencing posttraumatic stress, and offers thoughts about it. This book suggests that posttraumatic stress involves the whole person, that it is an injury, that one can move forward toward healing, and that professional help is a good idea. It suggests that the soul can grow.
