Editorial Reviews

This is the band's second album and first for Blue Corn. They've been wowing audiences coast to coast for the last three years and have built a huge fan base in their hometown of Austin, where they won the 2005 Austin Music Award for Best Bluegrass Band. Dark... is a big leap forward from their self-titled first album. Original members are joined by mandolin and fiddle players, and in addition to the group's own material, the album features songs from Bruce Robison and George and Ira Gershwin. This eclecticism is one reason they won the "Best New Band" competition at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Blue Corn Music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tremendous ! April 20, 2006
Format:Audio CD
I saw these guys at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival and was blown away.Their guitar player James Hyland is one of the great voices and writers in Texas style country music today. If you love the likes of Steve Earle, Guy Clark, Lyle Lovett etc. and if you like bands like The Waybacks and Yonder Mountain, then get both of South Austin Jug Bands CD's and if you're lucky you'll be able to find a copy of the James Hyland Band CD which I believe is out of print, but is one of my all time favorites!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Off course December 20, 2007
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
After an incredible first CD, they seemed to get off course. All of a sudden the guy with the real voice in the band was not singing and the bass player started doing most of the vocals. This was a huge mistake. I recently heard their 3rd CD and they are back on track in a big way. Thank goodness because this band is one of my favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Un-freakin-believable February 12, 2007
By Jeff
Format:Audio CD
Keep recording, and I'll keep buying! They are ALL musical geniuses. The music is uncatagorizable. They bring several influences to the table, but some will tell you it's bluegrass, newgrass, or country. Great for the college crowd and fogies alike. See'em live and be amazed!

4.0 out of 5 stars For starters... February 20, 2006
Format:Audio CD
Well I haven't heard the entire album yet, still waiting for it in the mail. But the songs I have heard on the net are awesome. "Dark and Weary World" is my favorite song. It paints a perfect picture of northern California coast, my home. Awesome indie-country group. I recomend them.
