This review is from: Tall, Dark...Westmoreland! (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
It seems that certain people refuse to accept Harlequin's recent legal ruling that was made on the issue they still want to push. Makes me wonder why. I suggest they read the legal ruling again. By the way . . . Tall, Dark... Westmoreland! was a wonderful book. Everything I expect from a Brenda Jackson. The Harlequin legal department has concluded their investigation regarding the Brenda Jackson, "Tall, Dark...Westmoreland!", and the two Rochelle Alers titles, "Just Before Dawn" and "Private Passions". Their response is as follows: "Upon close review of the above titles, we have concluded that there is no basis for a finding of copyright infringement or plagiarism. The test for copyright infringement is `substantial similarity'. There is minimal similarity between Brenda Jackson's book and Rochelle Alers' two books. The plots, sequence of events, dialogue and character development are sufficiently varied such that the total concept and feel of Brenda Jackson's work does not in any way resemble that of Rochelle Alers' work. More specifically, at issue is the fact that Brenda Jackson's "Tall, Dark...Westmoreland!" refers to a suicide involving a young child as does Rochelle Alers' "Just Before Dawn". However, the scene (in the context of each story and its impact on the characters) differs widely. Further, even though both Brenda Jackson's book "Tall, Dark...Westmoreland!" and Rochelle Alers' book "Private Passions" involve campaigns for public office, this element varies significantly with regards to its relation to the plot. Above all, in copyright terms, these elements may be considered to be `scènes-à-faire' - that is, these elements are too commonplace to constitute protectable expression. For these reasons, it is our opinion that there is no copyright infringement in this case. Plagiarism, on the other hand, involves the unfair attribution to an author of another author's work. In effect, for plagiarism to exist, one author would have to falsely claim authorship over text that he or she did not write. This is most clearly indicated by verbatim reproduction of another author's text. We do not feel that there is any evidence of this in any of the books at issue, and are quite confident that our authors each individually and separately wrote their own books. There is not even a slight similarity in the language, tone or placement of the implicated scenes in each of these books. As such, it is our view that Brenda Jackson did not plagiarize Rochelle Alers' work."

Reggie Westmoreland... what a man!,
By Reader Woman "The Book Diva" (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tall, Dark...Westmoreland! (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
This was a wonderful addition to the Westmoreland family series. Brenda Jackson tells this fast paced, thrilling romance as ONLY Brenda Jackson can. And she has created another stunning Westmoreland man for us all to fall in love with. Reggie has all of the traits we love in Westmoreland men. He is determined and strong and alpha and hella, hella sexy. I read this book in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. This reminds me of the early Westmoreland books, takes me back to Dare and Thorn, when I first fell in love with this family. I highly recommend this novel.

Tall, Dark...Westmoreland!,

The premise of the book is that at a masquerade ball two people meet and there is an instant attraction. It leads to a passionate encounter. When they met again it is to discover that her lover is her father's political nemeses. There is also a sleazeball character in it that gets his in the end. It is a fun quick read with just the right amount of tension. I have read all of Rochelle Alers books as well as Brenda Jackson's and they have very different writing techniques. I enjoy both of them immensely. Here is to good reading and helpful reviews.

Westmorelands....Still Keepin' It Interesting!,

Before I get into this review, let me just point out for a few people who need clarification - Romance novels are FICTION. They are written to entertain (not necessarily portray accurate society). THERE!Ok - as usual Ms. Brenda put it down on this next installment of the Westmoreland clan. As always, the Westmoreland man goes after what he wants (and plays hardball if he has to) to get what he wants. I really found this particular story interesting, because of the political aspect -that made it very entertaining for me. As always, the romance was on point and the author gave us just what everyone wants in a Desire Book - a quick, sexy read! Thanks Ms. J!! roshuane in TX

Reggie, and Oliva met at ball, not giving real names, they gave in to one night of hot passion. Oliva figure she would have fun this one time and not worry. However after finding out who Reggie is she still wants just a little bit more. Reggie to me was the first that I can remenber Westermoreland that feel in love and knew it and didn't try to fight it. The book was good, fast and leave it to Brenda Jackson to make sure that Oliva father even gets someone.I know there is Drama going on about this book, but I love Brenda Jackson work so I will always support her. Keep up the great work.

Reggie's the man!,

Another great one, Ms. Jackson! I love the Westmorelands and it is wonderful for you to bring us another Westmoreland man's story and to keep us up-to-date on the Westmoreland clan.Reggie and Olivia are great together and love at first sight is wonderful. Even the connection without them seeing each other except for their masks on was phenomenal. I believe in love, and if it is true love, then love can happen at first sight. Love is something awesome. It is a feeling that binds one to the other as it was meant to be. Therefore, when Reggie looked across the room at the woman sitting alone, deep in his heart a signal went off. It was electrical and magical at the same time because that signal connected with the signal in Olivia's heart. Reggie was truly an honest man for suggesting to Olivia that she phone someone from his cell the night they went off together for the first time. It was not only a safe thing to do, but a smart thing for Olivia to do. It not only showed that Reggie was trustworthy, but that he was honest and looking out for Olivia's wellbeing also. Olivia was a caring daughter, as well as a concerned daughter for her father's wellbeing and happiness. Their family had gone through something with Olivia and her brothers being raised only by their father, Orin and Olivia wanted only the best for her father. I hope in one of Ms. Jackson's future books about the Westmorelands, she also let us know that Olivia's father, Orin and his secretary, Cathy, eventually found true happiness as well. Cathy seems to be a loyal, dedicated employee as well as a deeply true friend to Orin and to his family. I like the mystery at the beginning of the book, but also enjoyed how Reggie and Olivia were both able to detect each other before they unveiled. The attraction was real and their story was a great love story of a love that binds. Again, another great one, Ms. Jackson!

Politically Incorrect,

This review is from: Tall, Dark...Westmoreland! (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
Reggie Westmoreland is the last single Westmoreland male in Atlanta. With a successful accounting firm, he's now ready to throw his hat into the political ring running for the Senate. Things only seem to get better when he meets a woman at a masquerade ball. Masks hid their identities but not their passion for each other. Once her true identity is revealed as the daughter of his political opponent, will Reggie retreat?Tall, dark, Westmoreland - just the way I like them! This is the fifteenth installment of the Westmoreland franchise and, like its predecessors, is fueled by fast love, fast lust and romance. Obviously by the fifteenth try Brenda Jackson knows exactly what works. I particularly liked the aggression of this female lead character Olivia, unlike the other books in this series. "Tall, Dark...Westmoreland" wraps up the Atlanta-based Westmorelands. I don't know about ya'll, but I'm ready to see what Denver has to offer!
