Book Description

September 1, 2005
The Call of Cthulhu This is the big one, the story that started it all! In "The Call of Cthulhu" the narrator, executor to a rather bizarre and eclectic estate, pieces together the terrible truth contained within the information he possesses. Contains both his supernatural detective, Inspector Legrasse, and possibly his most famous first line: "The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents." The Dunwich Horror In Dunwich, Massachusetts, an out-of-the-way backwoods village, live Wilbur Whateley, the son of a deformed albino mother and an unknown father, and his sorcerer grandfather. The two are up to something, searching for occult books, performing dark rituals and constantly making modifications to their home to accommodate an unseen presence--one many think may have something to do to all those cattle that keep mysteriously disappearing. This is it--the father of all dimensional doorway stories, containing Lovecraft’s famous Miskatonic University, the town of Arkham and the dark magical volume, the dreaded Necronomicon. This 1st of Audio Realms "Dark Worlds Of H. P. Lovecraft Collection" Produced and Directed by Fred Godsmark, and read by the comparable Wayne June is on 3 Audio CDs. Artwork by Allen K

This review is from: The Dark Worlds of H.P. Lovecraft, Vol. 1: The Dunwich Horror & Call Of Cthulhu (Audio CD)
This series of audiobooks from Audio Realms is a first class production all around, and will be a treasure to fans of H. P. Lovecraft. Wayne June gives a great performance, by far the best reading of Lovecraft that I have heard, and his deep resonant voice captures the horrific eldritch atmosphere well. I have enjoyed many pleasant evenings listening to these recordings in my study with a glass of brandy. Most of Lovecraft's best stories are available - I will list them so you can find your favorites, but personally I just bought the entire collection.
