Highlight in Watershed series,
By Devlin McGregor (Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Darkenheight: The Watershed Trilogy 2 (Paperback)
Darkenheight is the second book of the Watershed Trilogy and it delivers just like Breach in the Watershed. In my opinion, Darkenheight is probably the best out of the three books as it didn't concentrate too much on Rudy and Raine's love affair and instead focused on the battles in Faerine and Dalethica. These were brilliantly written but I think that the low point for all of the Watershed books is the weakness of character. Rudy is a very weak character whose values are very low and Raine gets quite irritating very quickly. This story lacks more of the Drizzt type characters in Salvatore's books. But overall, a very good book.

Fun and gripping book,

A well written book provides a fun and interesting tale of a world divided into three by the power of water. This book was not of the same style of writting as many of the fantasy books of this day and age. For a story of war and destruction, it seemed to have a lighter side to it. The characters and dialogue, especially the farie, were cute and entertaining. However, when Niles needed to the sense of desolation, desparation and defeat were communicated in such a way that the reader feels every emotion the characters do. Overall an excellent and very fun reading.

Timing is terrible,
By Mahmut Fettahlioglu (Sydney, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Darkenheight: The Watershed Trilogy 2 (Paperback)
I read all the books in this series. Although the plot is good, and the world is interesting, there were several things that made me really consider stop reading.First is passing of time is terribly unrealistic. A trip which was taking 2 weeks on foot in the first book cannot take 3 days in the second book. A trip that a brutox takes in a few months is returned in one month or so, etc. There were so many examples of such trip-length inconsistencies that I had to keep forcing myself to overlook these and enjoy the rest of the book. Fragmentation of parallel events thorughout the books could not be any worse. They are always ending too quickly and the book jumps to the next so your enjoyment of the current event is kept too short. I think the author should look at Dragonlance classics series to see examples of how this should have been done. Also, those events do not occur in a proper time order. When you start reading the next section which writes about some other hero group, you sometimes understand current time should be before the previous section, or timing is much much more unrealistic than you've previously thought (even cases such as a few months trip taken in moments). These are very amateurish in my idea and had a quite bad impact of my enjoyment of the book. Actually I'm pretty surprised how other people rated this book so high.

Not as good as Terry Brooks' novels, but definately in the must read catagory. This book had true feeling in it. It made me long to be there and to warn and help the characters. I itch for the last book!!!
