Top Notch!,

This review is from: Darkening Glass (Mathilde of Westminster 3) (Paperback)
This book is excellent and historically accurate as I have come to expect of Paul Doherty. I love the Mathilde series, and this is the 3 book in the series. The action is set in and around York in spring and summer of 1312. Edward II and his wife Catherine are on the throne of England. There is lots of intrigue and plotting in the book, and lots of murders that Mathilde is commissioned by her King and Queen to solve. Historically, at this time, Edward II is at war with his earls and barons over the favourite Gavestone. There is also war between England and Robert the Bruce in Scotland. Mathilde is working against the clock to determine who is murdering Gavestone's followers one by one. I love the period detail; I love the characters and I love the plot. Wonderful!
