I've really enjoyed Seibenburgen over the years. This last effort was one of their best. This band really knew how to include some hooks in their black metal high speed riffing. Sadly they recently broke up in 2006. Fans of black metal similar to Old Man's Child might want to pick up some Seibenburgen.

2005's Darker Designs & Images is the fifth studio album from Swedish black metal band Siebenburgen. I'm not a major black metal fan, but Siebenburgen is one of a few bands in the genre that appeal to me. Like Dimmu Borgir, Hollenthon and Stormlord, Siebenburgen seems a bit more accessible and more creative than most.

True to the band's name (Siebenburgen refers to the Transylvanian region), vampirism is the main subject of Darker Designs & Images. As such, there are some gothic metal elements on the album, like haunting female vocals and symphonic keyboards. That's, of course, in addition to Siebenburgen's usual sinister black metal approach. I love the different vocal styles employed - one more death metal and one black - as well as the sheer speed and malevolence of these songs.

Siebenburgen is one of those bands that would make a great "gateway" into black metal (I can't imagine just jumping into Darkthrone and the like). They're also one of the more creative and interesting bands in the genre, and Darker Designs & Images is one of their better works. I'd also recommend their Plagued Be Thy Angel and Revelation VI albums.

i really like this cd it takes awhile to get into but so do most cds.
