You should know that this band IS very good at what they do, but they are Death Metal MINIMALISTS. They are not reinventing themselves every song - or album. If you want tech-prog metal, try Meshuggah. If you want solos, go back to Maiden (or Yngwie - see the Attack! album for perhaps the most obscene solo of all). For epic Black Metal production, go to Rotting Christ. Mortician is one band that really SHOULD be called brutal, for their laser focused attack (similar to Immortal). True, their formula is extra limited, but it makes me smile to hear it. Don't come to Mortician for pretty melodies, overdubs, fancy production, reverb, back-up vocals, showy drumming... you get the idea. The vocals deserve mention too: possibly the most hilariously bass-y monster vox of all, you can just make out what he's saying - if you have the lyrics in front of you. Somehow it works. And the sound is actually not too hard on the ears, because they are heavily bass-oriented. When you take it all into consideration, you'll have to say - hail Mortician!

Although Mortician usually sound pretty much the same on every recording it's not neccesarily a bad thing. I was rather baffled to hear that Mortician is "noise" from a reviewer. hmmm well I do listen to my share of Merzbow and Mortician isn't noise. Mortician definetly has riffs. oh yeah and just because it isn't technical or melodic or whatever doesn't mean it's bad. Hey the Rolling Stones never made any technical songs, or melodic songs. they still rock. and since when can you decipher any notes from Disgorge Mexico's guitars? Disgorge mexico is a lot more "noisy" than Mortician. and I wouldn't say Devourment is THAT brutal. They are sorta weak. Anyways this is just another Mortician album...your best bet is to buy Chainsaw Dismemberment if you like this band. Plus how could you not love that bass tone!?

... I dont want to be any of those brainless people who post things like"this is realy heavy,dude!" and i want to sound actullie smart so read this. Mortician was founded in 1989 Will Rahmer (bass/vocals) and Matt sicher(drums) under the name casket. The band named their first song mortician and, soon after, decided to use the ominous title as their own, in december 1989 for promotional purposes and in february of 1990 the songs were re-recorded for the band's first demo. John Mcentee of incantation played guitar on the recording and remained a member of mortician throughout most of the 90's, a time period that coin with Will singing for incantation. The cult demo was later released by Seraphic decay records under the title, brutally mutilated.

In january 1991, Roger J. Beaujard joined mortician,replacing Mcentee as permanent guitarist. Mortician began playing shows all around the north eastern u.s., generating a huge buzz within the metal community and catching the attention of the newly formed relapse records. Mortician's debut for relapse was the now-legendart mortal massacre 7"/cd ep.Mortician continued to play shows and festivals while preparing to record their first full-length cd. At this point in the band's history, they were forced to make a critical decision.Drummer Matt sicher relieved of his duties as a drummer due to personal reasons...That's when mortician began using drum machines and whatnot.Well, i hope you guys learned about this amazing band a little but as for their 8th album "darkest day of horror" is without a doubt mortician so don't let it pass up for true fans or gore music out there! I recommend.
