Book Description

January 1, 2010
The murder trial promises to be the most sensational to hit Chicago in years. And attorney Briley Lester knows it could make—or break— her career. The tabloid headlines are screaming that a long-mistreated society wife has killed her abusive husband—the scion of one of the city's wealthiest, most powerful, most dangerous families….

It seems like a hopeless, open-and-shut case, but Briley is becoming more and more convinced that her client truly is innocent. A tragic secret, almost too shocking to be believed, could be the key to proving it. But before she can bring the truth into the light, she'll have to face this woman's shadow-haunted past—and her own— and let darkness come….

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Starred Review. Hunt (The Face) whips out a shut-the-cellphone-off, cancel-all-appointments legal thriller whose surprise plot twist caroms out of nowhere. When Erin Tomassi is arrested for the murder of her husband, prominent Illinois state senator Jeffrey Tomassi, his powerful father arranges for Erin to be represented by inexperienced attorney Briley Lester. The defense seems hopeless: abused wife, her fingerprints on the murder weapon, no intruders. Even the opening description of the murder leaves the reader convinced of Erin's guilt. But once Hunt's sophistication with plot and character development kicks in, there is no escaping the notion that Erin is indeed innocent and Briley just might get her acquitted with a shocking and elegant final move. Readers will find the story gripping and compelling from start to finish. (Dec.)

More About the Author

Christy-Award winner Angela Hunt writes for readers who have learned to expect the unexpected in novels from this versatile author. With nearly four million copies of her books sold worldwide, she is the best-selling author of more than 100 works ranging from picture books (The Tale of Three Trees) to novels.

Now that her two children have reached their twenties, Angie and her youth-pastor husband live in Florida with Very Big Dogs (a direct result of watching Sandlot too many times). This affinity for mastiffs has not been without its rewards--one of their dogs was featured on Live with Regis and Kelly as the second-largest canine in America. Their dog received this dubious honor after an all-expenses-paid trip to Manhattan for the dog and the Hunts, complete with VIP air travel and a stretch limo in which they toured New York City. Afterward, the dog gave out paw-tographs at the airport.

When she's not home writing, Angie often travels to teach writing workshops at schools and writers' conferences. And to talk about her dogs, of course.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Legal Suspense from a Master Storyteller, November 23, 2009
By
Let Darkness Come follows a murder trial that is handed off to a young attorney who has no business defending a murder case on her own. As an attorney and author, I often find it hard to get sucked into a legal story without being distracted by either legal errors or my editor's eye. With this book, neither was an issue. Instead, the world stopped while I read Briley's quest for justice. And the twists were a lot of fun and kept the pages turning -- especially at the end. And if you've come to expect the unexpected from Angela Hunt's books, you will not be disappointed with the questions she raises as she wraps the book up. I hope she writes more legal suspense!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jump into this darkness, January 19, 2010

Angela Hunt's tagline is "Expect the unexpected." I do, yet she continues to surprise me. And this taut, intriguing mystery is no exception. Hunt's understated prose draws the reader into Briley's, Erin's, and Antonio's world--then tilts it, inviting news perspectives, allowing new insights. The story unfurls with masterful precision, early clues barely breathed into the story with such subtlety Sherlock Holmes would have difficulty catching them. An exceptional read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner from Hunt, November 23, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have been an Angela Hunt fan for several years now, but she still has the capacity to amaze me with her range of topics, her depth of research and her insight on any chosen subject. This latest effort, however, has taken her writing deeply into the realm of mystery, and one would think she'd been writing in this venue for a long time. Even being well-trained to "expect the unexpected" from Ms. Hunt, I was kept on tenterhooks as I devoured this book in a day. I hope that she continues to write books of this genre. She certainly has the talent and the capabilities for spinning a mysterious and exciting story. Bringing the reader to a place of understanding details of the investigation ... giving a little here, and withholding a little there ... she discloses just enough in each chapter to have the reader anxious for more and unable to stop reading until the conclusion. And, as so often happens with her books, this one, too, has sent me to the Internet for more information about some particular subject matter. It's my way of not letting the story end, which always happens way too soon with an Angela Hunt book!
