Book Description

December 15, 2005
A Darkness Ablaze presents a chilling, detailed account of American medicine during the Civil War. The basis of the book is the medical diary of the author’s great-great-grandfather, Dr. John Hendricks Kinyoun, surgeon of the Sixty-Sixth North Carolina Infantry Regiment. Dr. Kinyoun served with this unit from September 1863 until April 1865, when his regiment surrendered at Durham Station, North Carolina, at the war’s conclusion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Birthday Present Review, December 16, 2008
This review is from: A Darkness Ablaze, The Civil War Medical Diary and Wartime Experiences of Dr. John Hendricks Kinyoun, Sixty-Sixth North Carolina Infantry Regiment (Hardcover)
I ordered this book for my son-in-law as a birthday present. He was/is still very, very pleased and excited about receiving it. The fact that the medical diary is genuine was a real big bonus. It is the main reason why I decided to purchase this particular book.
