Book Description

September 1, 2008 Iron Elves (Book 1)
Konowa Swift Dragon, former commander of the Empire's elite Iron Elves, is looked upon as anything but ordinary. He has murdered a Viceroy, been court-martialed, seen his beloved regiment disbanded, and been banished in disgrace to the one place he despises the most-the forest. Now all Konowa wants is to be left alone with his misery. But for him, nothing is ever that simple. The mysterious and alluring Visyna Tekoy, the highborn daughter of an elfkynan governor, seeks him out in the dangerous wild with a royal decree that he resume his commission as an officer in Her Majesty's Imperial Army, effective immediately. For in the east, a falling Red Star heralds the return of a magic long vanished from the earth. Rebellion grows within the Empire as a frantic race to reach the Star unfolds. It is a chance for Konowa to redeem himself-even if the entire affair appears doomed to be a suicide mission. And the soldiers recruited for the task are not at all what he expects. Worse, his key adversary in the perilous race for the Star is the dreaded Shadow Monarch-a legendary elf-witch whose machinations for absolute domination spread deeper than Konowa could ever imagine.

About the Author

Chris Evans was born in Canada and now lives in New York City. He is a historian as well as an editor of military history and current affairs books. A Darkness Forged in Fire is his first novel. Audiobook veteran and AudioFile Earphones Award winner Michael Kramer has recorded more than two hundred audiobooks for trade publishers and many more for the Library of Congress Talking Books program. His audiobooks include North and South by John Jakes, and a number of other Jakes titles; capers and mysteries by Donald E. Westlake (a.k.a. Richard Stark), including Money for Nothing; and Robert Jordan's fantasy-adventure fiction. In addition, Michael received Audie Award nominations for The Gathering Storm by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson and Dead Aim by Thomas Perry, and a Publishers Weekly Listen-Up Award for Savages by Don Winslow.

From AudioFile

Michael Kramer's deep and ragged voice drives this production and keeps listeners fully entrenched in this first book by Evans. The plot centers on Konowa Swiftdragon, a successful, albeit shunned, former warrior of the Iron Elves of the Calahrian Empire. As he is aimlessly wandering, the empire calls him back for one more mission--one that will have him and his eclectic troupe running up against the dreaded Shadow Monarch. Despite his manly baritone, Kramer can still soften his vocal chords for plausible females and play a range of characters. He selects well-matched voices for those who inhabit this fantasy world and stays consistent with them. L.E. © AudioFile 2009, Portland, Maine

They tell me I was born in Canada. I do like hockey, and I am wary of polar bears so they're probably right. I now live in New York City and can often be found in my favorite diner, the Gracie Mews, where I simply nod and my usual is served, which is great except on the days when I don't want the usual. When reading, researching, writing, and editing are called for, as they pretty much are every day of the week, you'll find me at the New York Society Library. If I'm not hungry, and need a break from all the writing and reading, I'll be off running in Central Park and imagining I'm much faster than I really am.

I've got a few degrees (98.6 most days, over 100 when I have a fever) and put some of them to use as an editor of history and current affairs/conflicts books where I edit the Stackpole Military History Series (you may have seen them, usually green borders with a military medal on the cover and spine). I'm also the author of the Iron Elves fantasy series which includes A Darkness Forged in Fire, The Light of Burning Shadows, and the forthcoming Ashes Of A Black Frost. The Iron Elves series is being translated into Japanese, Russian, French, Czech, and German, and luckily for all the Japanese, Russian, French, Czech, and German readers out there I'm not the one doing the translations.

For more information, or least the same information told differently, please visit my Simon & Schuster author page at http://authors.simonandschuster.com/Chris-Evans/46195026 or check out my website at www.ironelves.com where you can find out a bit more and even read my blog, or try me face to face at Chris Evans (Iron Elves) on Facebook, or me being a twit at @CEvansAuthor on Twitter...just please don't tell the polar bears where I'm at.

Cheers,

Chris
