This is an astonishing CD, and my very favorite Christmas/Advent CD. As with some other Advent recordings, this CD is a mix of Carols & other choral pieces, interspersed with readings from scripture about the coming of the Messiah, and hymns & readings about the the Christmas story & birth of Christ. The quality of this choir is amazing; their performance, their perfect pitch, their pure intonation, & how clearly they sing. Also, the quality of the recording, the sound of the Cathedral & the ambience of the space where it was recorded...I don't know if this choir has other releases, but they certainly should be more well-known. The readings are also well-spoken, clear & well recorded. The arrangements of the hymns & Carols are also outstanding. I never thought I'd hear such a fresh interpretation of "O Come, O Come Emmanuel", but the orgn accompaniment is quite original, and the choir builds slowly to an exciting finish. Some of the anthems are not as well known, but they are all superb. I've played this CD dozens & dozens of times; it is still breathtaking and one of the finest performances I've heard on disc. Another CD which is a similar format & also well recorded is [[ASIN: B00005OAJX Advent Procession]]. I'd recommend them both, but this CD, (From Darkness to Light: An Advent Procession by Wellington Cathedral Choir) is my favorite Christmas CD. If I could give this 10 stars I would!
