The opening lyrics to "Pretty Vampires" are both dramatic and playful - and only a taste of one of Weszt’s (pronounced "west") most consistent messages: take us seriously, but not that seriously. Based in Orlando, Florida, Weszt debuted on the indie rock scene with the 2003 Cell Records release, "Darkness Shines", a 10-song lyrical assault produced by James Paul Wisner (Dashboard Confessional, Further Seems Forever). The three-guitar, four-vocal rock quintet includes Weszt (lead vocals, guitar), David Borkman (lead guitar), Eric Murray (guitar), Mike Pugh (drums), and Bobby Lane (bass). While this lineup was solidified in February 2003, the origins of the group are lost in obscurity.

"We’ve gone through a lot of members and a lot of transitions, that’s for sure. The band looked and sounded completely different even a year ago, but any evolution that happens now will be within the five of us," says vocalist and band namesake Weszt. "This is the lineup I’ve always wanted and we’ve got a chemistry that’s really beginning to push the songs and show to a completely different level. The only thing that hasn’t changed is the effort."

Darkness Shines began hitting airwaves in January 2003 and within two weeks of their virgin release, Weszt began charting throughout the southeastern United States. Similar success was met when they began receiving airplay further north and into the heartland. The band is currently touring the eastern United States.

Weszt’s sound meshes well with contemporary mainstream rock, but his lyrics express a desire for deeper meaning, often weaving themes within themes, where a song is not always what it first appears to be. Most easily described as alternative rock, Weszt’s music explores a wide range of subjects. From love to murder, from gunfighters to celebrity stalkers, Weszt puts an uplifting sound to dark emotions.

It's rare to hear an album where every song is good - I don't skip any of them! Pretty Vampires is awesome and Face Down in Hollywood is destined for movies. Remind me of early Live, but definitely on their own path. Great vocals, great songs - I love it!

If you like Verve Pipe, mid-era Rush, etc. you'll love this. I can safely say there is not one filler song on this CD; they're all that good. Melodic, great guitar riffs, tight drums, thoughtful lyrics, and wonderful vocal harmonies. My favorites: Pretty Vampires, Hooka, Crawl to the Outside.

I know these guys! They are the bomb! The lyrics are awesome. The music is off the chain! I can listen to their music for hours and hours and just loose myself. I plan on going to every show I possibly can. I definately reccomend this as a MUST BUY!!!!! Their second CD, also, a must buy! BUY BUY BUY BUY!!! And in case you didn't get that BUY IT!
