5.0 out of 5 stars Darksiders II Wii U November 22, 2012
By Excel
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii U|Edition:Standard
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This game is one of the best action RPG I have played yet. The major difference between part 1 and 2 is that 2 has a true RPG feel to it with a leveling system and experience points, in addition to a talent point system. The Wii U touch pad makes this game far more enjoyable and greatly improves the interface, and I definitely recommend the Wii U version above all others. The only con on the Wii U version is the lack of a achievement system. Achievements and trophy's have always distracted me from really enjoying a game though.

I want to love Darksiders II on Wii U.

I honestly have no complaints about the gameplay. It's a very fun action/adventure that reminds me a lot of a darker Zelda game (with a snarky, hardcore protagonist). The story is interesting, the characters are well designed, and the game has some beautiful parts. I would also point out that much like Zelda games, the bosses can be a lot of fun. There is one boss that reminded me of Shadow of the Colossus (which is a great compliment).

So from a pure gameplay perspective, I would recommend this game. Also, I found the story to be a lot of fun, and it's fun how it ties in with the original (though you aren't required to have played the original to get into this story). Playing as Death is great.

The music and voiceover work are fantastic, by the way.

All of that said, this game suffers from some serious bugs and performance issues.

On the performance side, when more than a handful of enemies and effects are going off on-screen, the game slows down. Even during cutscenes, if a lot is going on, the framerate drops noticeably. This is something that happens in other games like Arkham City and Mass Effect 3 on Wii U as well, but neither of those is close to as bad as what happens in Darksiders II.

The game also looks a bit outdated, to be completely honest. I did not find it to be up to par with Mass Effect 3 on Wii U graphically. Yes, there are beautiful scenes and moments, but at the same time, there are blocky textures, jagged polygons, and pixelated particle effects. Not great.

Finally, and this is something that knocked a whole star off the score for me, this game has a lot of bugs.

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY Impressed - a must buy for Wii U November 24, 2012
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii U|Edition:Standard
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This is a sweet game - it's in the spirit of Zelda, but with more platforming, weapons, and the perfect amount of complexity. I might even go so far as to say this may even 1 up Zelda. The story is great and controls perfectly tight. Just a well rounded action adventure game. (I won't do a complete game review based on the story or graphics or sound - I highly assume they are similar to that available on the other systems.)

The difference here is being able to switch weapons on the fly and zip around on the map with the gamepad. Though I assume in a sequel, they will even integrate it more (after all, this wasn't originally designed for Wii U).

This is the best money I spent on a Wii U game by FAR - no regrets period. Don't take a chance on other games, seriously.

TIP: If you are not familiar with the Darksiders story line, do 5 minutes of reading online just before starting the game (to get the backstory). It is time well spent as the included manual gives none of that info...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game January 19, 2013
By Jeff
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii U|Edition:Standard
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I really enjoyed this game. I had owned it on the 360 but then my 360 got the red ring of death, so I got it on Wii U. The Wii U version gamepad support is great and well implemented. The game plays very well split between the gamepad and the tv, or smooth on the gamepad itself. The graphics on the Wii U version are superior to those on the Xbox, mainly due to better FPS and anti-aliasing. However, in my 60 hour playthrough, the game did hard crash 3-4 times, causing me to have to unplug the Wii U itself. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the Wii U or the game, but this did not happen on the Xbox (at least in the 20 hours I played it on that system).

The game itself is fantastic. I love the lore and the setting of this series. Death is an interesting protagonist and very fun to play as. I thought the combat was very fun throughout the game, and didn't have a problem with the pacing. I was very glad they put in an arena (the crucible) which served great to showcase the game's fluid combat.

I played on Apocalyptic difficulty, and finished all but three sidequests, got to level 74 of the crucible, finished the soul arbiter's maze, and found most the treasures. This took me 60 hours. If you are a completionist, I could see this going 70+ on your first playthrough (not to mention NG+).

This game continues in the spirit of the first, and I thoroughly recommend it to both those who played DS1 and newcomers to the series.

The only reason I gave this 4/5 and not 5/5 on 'overall' is due to the crashing that I experienced.

5.0 out of 5 stars Darksiders II - Underrated November 12, 2013
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii U|Edition:Standard
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I picked up this game for the Wii U while waiting on Wind Waker HD, and I'm glad I did. It's an excellent new action-adventure series, but sadly there isn't likely to be a sequel. THQ isn't doing so well.

Anyway, this game has a slight learning curve, but that's what makes it fun. It has its own twist on things, which keeps things interesting without being too bizarre or complicated. I personally like the story, but a lot of people seem to find it lacking.

Basically, if you enjoy action-adventure games like Zelda, Okami, or Assassin's Creed, you'll probably enjoy this game as well.
