5.0 out of 5 stars The best movie to watch with a group of friends
This is a very well done, very entertaining werewolf film, with a very original premise. It was a nice surprise to see Alexis Cruz (from Stargate), and especially Tippie Hedren, the star of Hitchcock's "The Birds". I saw it on a friend's home theater, and it sounded absolutely great. I really liked the music for the rooftop scene - which is a scene to watch over and over...

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad Werewolf movies #1: Darkwolf.
Darkwolf is a waste of videotape. What could have been a cool movie (it had the female werewolf, nice start) ends right their with too much visuals of a naked man and very little naked ladies (the fake lesbian scene was one tease too many). The CGI was laughable and the storyline with the female werewolf is not explored fully enough. Bad night for

5.0 out of 5 stars I really liked this film and I know werewolfs., April 22, 2003

There is a gritty feel and real style to DarkWolf that far surpasses many others of the same genre. I'm sure the director intended this dark, seedy, underground atmosphere that this film embodies. This may be misinterpreted as just being a function of the smaller budget, but I believe that director Richard Friedman knew what he was up to all along. I gave this werewolf a chance, and I'm glad I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Darkwolf is surprisingly good. When do we get the Sequel?, February 15, 2004

This review is from: Darkwolf (DVD)
I really like horror films and make it a point to watch at least one or two new ones a week. Nobody really expects a low budget horror film to be really good, but surprisingly, I watched one this week that really was excellent. The film, Darkwolf is worth taking a look at for a lot of reasons. Here's my list of reasons why Darkwolf stands out from all the other horror films I've seen recently.

1) Really good story. People who claim the plot of this movie is stupid, don't really know how horror films are supposed to be. There's enough good story here to keep you watching for way more than the 95 minutes running time.

2) Good acting. The cast is surprisingly good. I've seen lots of them on TV, like Samaire Armstrong who is star of the television series, "The OC." She's really cute and really a good actress. Also Jamie Bergman who was in Howard Stern's TV series "Son of the Beach." and Playboy. Sasha Williams was also one of the Power Rangers. Others that are in the film are Kane Hodder who played Jason in all the "Friday, the 13th" movies, Alexis Cruz who was in Stargate, and Tippie Hedren who was in a bunch of Alfred Hitchcock films including "The Birds" which is a favorite of mine.

3) Hot Babes and more hot babes! Horror films are supposed to have hot babes and this one has more than almost all the rest put together. The good part about it is they are cool hot babes, not just stupid bimbos like most horror films. I wouldn't mind marrying any one of them. Did I mention that there is a lot of flesh too and flesh is a good thing. I won't tell you much about it, but there's this naked dance scene you got to see. Just see it and you'll know what I'm talking about.

4) Darkwolf is a really good creature. The special effects aren't the best, but this wolf's got personality. Hey, if you want brilliant special effects, go see Matrix or X-Men or something like that. in this film, it's the really great campiness of the creature that works for me. I hope the filmmakers don't screw it up in the sequel with better special effects.

5) Good characters. I'm 19 and I identified with the young people in this movie. They weren't that supid or out of touch like most other horror films. The lead character, Josie, (Samaire Armstrong) is totally believable and is a strong woman. I really like strong women in movies and real life. The cop, "Turley" played by Ryan Alosio is a cool dude. He's kind of like a really likeable James Dean sort of guy. I have to admit, I would have like him and Josie to get together by the end of the film. Maybe the'll both come back in the sequel.

6) The movie moved really fast and well directed. This film had some style, and never really slowed down. I wasn't bored for a second. It kind of reminded me of a lower budget "Terminator." It looked much better than most other cheapo horror films. I don't think the budget was very big on this movie, but it still managed to look really cool.

7) Really good extra stuff on the DVD. There's a hilarious blooper real and a well done documentary on the making of the film, where the actors, director, writer etc. are interviewed. I always like this material because it gives me more of a look into what really went on behind the scenes.

Anyway, just like I said, Darkwolf is a very cool movie. I really hope that the filmmakers do a sequel soon. Just make sure to keep most of the same characters (the one's that are left alive anyway.) I think you can buy the film for a really good price now, and it's well worth keeping in your horror library.

5.0 out of 5 stars -, January 13, 2004
This review is from: Darkwolf (DVD)
I began watching this movie thinking to myself "man this is pure garbage" but somewhere along the line I became a fan.

I began typing an Amazon review in "real time", criticizing every scene on how dumb it was. I guess 45 minutes into it I could no longer type anything bad about it and was drawn in to this cheesy "B" flick. It was clear that the budget was minimal (oh boy was it clear), but they made this movie work with lots of bewbies and great acting.

The werewolves in this movie are a sad, pitiful site in they're mechanical, outfitted and CGI states but there's more to this movie than the mindless violence and the appearances of werewolves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Howling good time, April 25, 2003

I heard about Darkwolf from online ads. I decided to ...check it out. I thought it was really good and stylish. Some people might complain that the actors are not well known, but I think it's nice to have fresh new talent. Samaire Armstrong and Jamie Bergman have done comedy, so there's just a little bit of a comedy overtone to the film. There are several very attractive women as well. Darkwolf was really entertaining! ... As you watch the movie, look how the wolf's face changes shape and color. First his face is green, then brown, then grey, even red! (Sometimes all in the same scene.) This is distracting, but it is kind of amusing in itself. And keep in mind I don't like the same types of movies as most people; I would even say I like movies that most people don't like. Darkwolf isn't for everyone; it has a certain audience.

One other thing that I would have liked more is if there was even more sex than there already was! Darkwolf doesn't take itself too lightly, but it doesn't take itself too seriously either. I thought the final scene with the wolf should have been longer and more stressful for Josie. I liked the commentary feature from the cast and crew. There are also outtakes ('gag reel'), but it's a little short. Overall, Darkwolf was so good. ...

5.0 out of 5 stars It works for me, April 3, 2003

I may be in the minority here -- but as a female viewer, there's something about this movie that's oddly compelling. I'm not normally a horror film fan, but a friend of mine made me watch this film with her, and I have to admit, I was ready to be offended -- but I wasn't. I can't quite figure out what it is -- but there's something about this film that kept me watching until the end. The lead actress gave a really sensitive performance -- I don't know who she is -- but she's going places. She's sexy and the film as a whole is sexy. Though the film is dark -- and extremely violent at times -- I did care for the kids in this film. Most of all, it was entertaining -- and what more could one ask from a movie of this sort. Who would have known a werewolf movie could be so intelligent. Did I say that?

This is probably one of the worst movies ever made. It is so cheesey that it is laughable. I cannot understand how anyone or a movie company could financially back such a piece of garbage. What a waste of time, energy, and money for everyone involved in its making and those who purchase and watch it. I want my money back and a discount on my next purchase for watching this crap.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buy it USED, February 7, 2010

Sometimes I wish that I wasn't such a big fan of werewolves. It would spare me from a lifetime of watching and collecting such an endless list of terrible movies. In the tradition of second rate werewolf movies, Darkwolf shines through as a gleaming example of a THIRD RATE MOVIE.

The story is confused and dragged out with meaningless padding scenes. The acting, wardrobe, and props would embarrass the local AV and drama classes from your local high school. The CGI effects are completely unfinished and embarrassing to watch. Clearly the effect budget ran out midway through production.

The only saving grace of this film is the non stop parade of naked women that constantly pop up in the film from the opening sequence in a nude bar to an rather hot, 10 minute, totally useless to the plot photo session scene with two naked ladies in werewolf body paint having a near lesbo-erotic experience (Which is also the best acted scene in the whole movie).

If you are a werewolf enthusiast like me and collect media containing the hairy monsters no matter it's quality, then buy this one used. If you don't share my "curse", then I'm sure your money could be spent better elsewhere... like investing in Heath Ledger's newest film...

5.0 out of 5 stars Kane Hodder is DarkWolf!!!, May 15, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Darkwolf (DVD)
Kane Hodder, world famous for his portrayal of Jason in the "Friday the 13th" movies is a force to be reckoned with in "DarkWolf". Not only is he the only Jason in my mind, but he's fantastic as the human form of DarkWolf. You gotta see him in his biker uniform, transforming into the wolf creature.

This movie is not only worth seeing for Kane, but Playboy Bunny and "Son of the Beach" series star Jamie Bergman is very cool too. Along with Alexis Cruz from "Stargate" and Steven Williams from "Twenty-One Jump Street," DarkWolf packs a lot of wallop!

DarkWolf is just plain fun and not to be taken too seriously. If you just sit back and watch the stellar "B"cast do their thing, you can't go wrong!
