Biography

When Southampton's Band Of Skulls played a sold-out gig at London's Forum in October 2010, it was a performance befitting a band honed by two years of constant touring, their sun-kissed melodies sweeter than ever, their riffs heavier and dirtier.. "In our minds, our first album [2009's debut album Baby Darling Doll Face Honey] was quite an intimate little record," says singer/guitarist Russell… Read more in Amazon's Band of Skulls Store

Editorial Reviews

Deluxe edition features two bonus tracks! Their debut offers a taste of their driving guitar force, heartbreaking duets, and sun-kissed, wall of sound harmonies. Produced, recorded, and mixed by Ian Davenport (Supergrass, Badly Drawn Boy). Artwork by bassist/vocalist Emma Richardson. "Patterns" selected for Activision's Tony Hawk World Skate Game (out fall 2009). ESPN will use "I Know What I Am" in sports backgrounds. The song is also featured in the film "Whip It!" and the TV trailer for "I Love You, Man".

5.0 out of 5 stars actually, it rocks, doesn't it?, November 12, 2009
London debut combines glam/psych Indie garage rock with some hard-edged guitar and
distortion-damaged blues lines in a place where melody-strewn verses collide with rumbling,
riff-driven choruses. Hanging out somewhere among White Stripes, the Kills, Duke Spirit,
Queens Of the Stone Age, Black Keys.

5.0 out of 5 stars BIG,STOMPIN', BLUES ROCK!, June 18, 2009
Great band, not a bad song on the album. I am really amazed that they are still relatively unknown. $5.99?! That is a great price for so much damn good music. If you like The Black Keys, or White Stripes, you will dig this! PLUG-Check out Dan Auerbach's new album too!

4.0 out of 5 stars Band of Rockers Who Just Happen To Have Skulls, March 28, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Sounding like a cross between The Rolling Stones & The White Stripes, Band of Skulls is truly a product of the current alternative rock scene. They're brash, they have that dirty sound, and they're radio-friendly. But, the first thing you'll probably notice is that "Baby Darling Doll Face Honey" is truly a debut album. Every song has a different sound, and while they do share some common similarities, it feels like the band is feeling out the territory. As a result, it really feels disjointed. But the problem is, they're so good on most of the sounds. They do the dirty rock well, but they're also amazing at the slower ballads. Add to that the fact that they have duel vocalists, and there's a lot going on here. Most of it is pretty good, but not all of it works.

Highlights Include:
Light of the Morning
Death By Diamonds & Pearls
I Know What I Am
Honest
Cold Fame

Overall, if you're a fan of current alternative rock, then you should love what you find here. It sounds like a continuation of the White Stripes, and while they're unsure of their work at times, or what sound & style they should exactly be going for, if they did stay consistent, Band of Skulls really has something here. Heck, they casted off the song "Friends" which made it onto the New Moon soundtrack, and that's a great song. So if they're castoffs are that good, imagine the potential greatness of this band.
