Editorial Reviews

Review

Cat Parker has two objectives - keep up her appearance as a proper lady from New York and lure Jake Garrett into her web. Why? So she could kill him, just like she had vowed to do. She has spent the last three years waiting for the right time, and now, here in Millwood, she would be able to do just that. Hopefully, her new lady's clothes and behavior would even keep her real identity a secret from Jake until it was too late. Unfortunately, Cat hadn't counted on that old attraction to the darkly handsome gunslinger bubbling back up inside. Her reaction to his deep voice and smooth moves keeps her on her toes and Jake on her mind. As for Jake...well, he felt the heat pulsing in his veins the moment he laid eyes on Cat Parker. Oh, he doesn't remember ever having met this sweet, beautiful lady before, but he certainly intends to make her acquaintance as quickly as possible. And if things work out well, maybe she would even understand his past gunfighter days and realize that he was changing for good. He has plans to stay in Millwood, maybe even make a home for himself. Both Jake and Cat seek release from torrid pasts. The escalating desire between them is totally consuming, but it is a lack of trust that lies in wait to destroy each tender moment. Memories are hard to battle, but passion wages an even harsher war. Add to this mix a little heavenly intervention, a rare treat that lends humor and fun to the plot, and Darling Cat becomes one entrancing western romance. Joyce Adams' latest is delightfully witty and romantic!Joyce Adams rounds up fun, gunfights, and passion with Darling Cat! A western romance that plays to a different drum - with a little angelic harp thrown in for good measure! Don't miss Darling Cat! Love that Jake Garrett! 4.0 out of 5 stars "OH, FEATHERS!" - WHAT A WONDERFUL PLOT!, September 19, 2005

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Darling Cat (Lovegram Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
A guardian angel for the gunslinger, Jake Garrett? What was St. Peter thinking? Humorous!

Caitlin "Cat" Parker was trying to dodge the man following her. And wouldn't you know, she runs into Jake on exiting the train at Millwood. She definitely [almost] want revenge for Jake killing the only man who offered to marry her.

Angel Tamera was finally given the job of guarding Jake Garrett.

Her favorite exclaimation, "Oh, Feathers!" and would you believe she sometimes drops a feather.

Jake Garrett is hopeing to maybe settle in Millwood and the sheriff, Ty, a man in his late fortys wants Jake to put on the deputy's badge. Jake is afraid of bringing in the gunslingers trying to make a reputation in killing him.

There is so much fun in meeting all the various characters and Cat's trying to act like a lady from New York.

Then "Lazarus" shows up and wants Cat. [Well, maybe]

He just about does Jake in. Tamera had been temperarily called off duty. Leave it to Cat to come to the rescue.

What a rocky road to love! A most excellent story -

Definitely recommended --M

5.0 out of 5 stars surprisingly good book!, June 21, 2000
This review is from: Darling Cat (Lovegram Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the first Joyce Adams book I have read, and I was quite pleased with this find! The book is set in the old western times (think John Wayne and Clint Eastwod) and is about Cat, a female gunfighter who gets all dressed up and pretends she's a New York lady in order to fool and revenge herself on the gunfighter Jake who killed her fiance. Only problem is she isn't finding it as easy as she planned! I really enjoyed reading about a strong female character who can equal the men yet retains her feminism, and the way the that Adams incorporates guardian angels into the story is cute, not overly dramatic and too out of place as I have seen in other books. The book is also pretty humorous at times, which I like. I don't want give away the story by praising it too much, but if you like historical romance novels at all, this is definitely a great one to read! For myself, I will definitely be reading more Joyce Adams novels. Hopefully the rest are as interesting as Darling Cat was!
